Pretty happy with the look of my Great Wall this time!

Playin Ibn Battuta with Han, last turn of Antiquity (standard, sandard, continents & islands, deity). In previous games where I used it, my Great Wall was a collection of short pieces looking ugly, this time I planned ahead and the result I find satisfying.

What are your benchmarks on deity?

Started playing the game 10 days ago and still in process of getting the feel of how to play optimally. I favor science victories mostly. Deity play.

I was wondering what were your benchmarks for a strong game in the Antiquity Age? I usually aim at 4 settlements quickly (turn 35-50) and end the age with 8-10 among them 3 cities. I also aim to discover all of my continent by the end of the age obviously. And I of course prioritize everything that would give me innovations as I pursue a Science Victory. At the end of Antiquity though, I’m still not ahead of the AI though (though not too distanced either).

I always ask myself the same questions namely:
-what would be good science and culture yields by turn 80/100
-should I clear or befriend IPs (I clear them when i can’t befriend but that’s a only reason so far)
-should I invest in merchants and trade in Antiquity (I usually don’t but mostly because I focus on other things)
-when the age should reasonably end (I like fast victories so the earlier the better)
-and should I go peaceful or military route

Any thoughts guys?

Is it me or is the game more difficult military-wise than it’s predecessors?

Hi there I’m a veteran civ5 deity player and also played and beat civ6 on deity quite a lot. Just started civ7 (ToT update) a week ago and I am quite surprised by the difficulty of the early game military-wise, not only on deity but also on lower difficulties.

In almost every game I’m surrounded by 3 to 4 hostile independant powers which spam units like crazy. Unless you play as a military civ or as himiko to befriend, I feel you have to invest in military much more than previous games. The level of some AI aggression is also high and their army builds up quickly. Again, not only on deity (which is expected) but also on lower difficulties.

Other than that the game seems less difficult to master, but I wonder how you guys think of the early game aggressiveness? Was I just unlucky in my first few games?
