Why are Toronto salaries so low compared to other major North American cities?

I know in general Canada pays less but I feel like our premier city would at least be comparable even if it’s just numbers wise and forgetting but the conversion rates. As a nurse here is hurts my soul when I heard about thsoe across the border easily cracking 200k in base salary which is unheard of here. But even outside my field seems pretty standard across the board, so why even in Toronto the capital city do we not see these types of high wages?

I have massive debt and am unemployed, should I do a consumer proposal?

I’m 24 residing in the gta and currently on EI due to being unemployed for close to a year now. I still have 4 months left on ei but I also have amazed a to of debt 35k in student loans (private not through osap at 8%) and 17k cc debt at 20.99%. My ei isn’t much only $1100 per month but with my debt it eats up most of it. I already moved back home but even so it’s tight.

I plan on applying for welfare or an ei extension in the next couple of months so I want to do the consumer proposal before then to cut down my expenses. Does this plan make sense or would it be better to try and do the proposal after my ei runs out and I apply for extension or welfare/ow.
