Question re: your own mechanic inspections on a used vehicle from a dealer

I’m currently being the patient child of my parents shopping for a used vehicle. They got sold a lemon a few years ago so they’ve been burned. I would like to get whatever used vehicle they’re about to purchase inspected by our own mechanic. They’ve been to three different dealerships saying that they can’t do that. One of them said that they could get their own inspection with anywhere from a $1000 to $2500 nonrefundable deposit.

I must be out out of the loop, so please educate me: if you’re buying a vehicle from a dealership, is getting an inspection from your own mechanic not a thing? Is this only when you buy privately?

Netherlands weather in mid November

I have the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam in mid November on a direct flight from my city in Canada. It looks like we will either be similar temperatures or slightly colder in Edmonton. But Edmonton is a dry cold. I’m concerned about being able to enjoy myself with your more humid coastal cold. Anyone who’s experienced both have an opinion on whether I should save my Netherlands travel for a different time of year?

(it’s so weird to be asking you guys this while you’re in the middle of your heat wave)

Re-booking Alberta parks

Do you forfeit the $12 fee whether you re-book or cancel? Booking is for Sunday for 6 nights but looking to switch it to August for 4 nights. It’s under the other persons account so I can’t check to see if there’s a “change reservation” option (the other person is unable to do this at this moment, hence me asking here first before bugging him).
