UV Printer vs Sticker Paper Method

Testing out my new UV Printer and wanted to compare it to the sticker paper method I was using before.

I think the one thing I liked more on the sticker paper method was that it allowed more holo to shine through since it was using an inkjet printer for the color layer. However, I think the benefits of the UV printer outweigh this:

  • Matte Finish instead of glossy
  • Easier to align mask and color layers, all done in software rather than manual alignment of sticker paper.
  • Can print directly onto the blanked card, so thickness is the same as a real card.
  • Better detail and contrast. Text and artwork is much more crisp - Although this could just be due to my shitty inkjet.
  • Don't need two printers - Previously, I was using a laser printer with white toner for masking + inkjet for color.

I will probably try dithering the unmasked parts to see if I can get more foil shine through in the future, but for now I am pretty happy with the results. It definitely saves a ton of time and makes the process less frustrating, especially with trying to line up two sticker papers.

Just thought I would share in case anyone was interested in some direct comparisons.
