Help with a player bringing the vibe down please!
Hi all! Ran my first 4 games as storyteller over the weekend. I've been playing for a couple years now.
I'd love some advice on what to do with a player. This player was invited amongst a bunch of players, 6 total newbies, and 2 with a few games under their belts. This particular player kept 'heckling' the game, saying it was for nerds and insulting the people that designed it, and those that enjoy it. Generally bringing the vibe down.
The problem is that their partner publicly stated that they are autistic. I've known them for a while to have very strong opinions, likes, dislikes, and voices them without considering those around them. I did tell the person that if they aren't enjoying the game, they don't have to play it, but they said no, they want to be here, and continued to play sort of tapped-out, making fun of us for enjoying the game and solving the puzzle, drinking lots, and not paying much attention.
I want my players to enjoy Clocktower and not be brought down, but I also don't want to be ableist to someone with autism or anyone with neurodivergence. The partner of this player was also really enjoying the game; it's an awkward situation if I were to invite one and not the other to the next game.
It was very fun aside from this hiccup! I want to run a welcoming, safe and fun space, as I've experienced in this community thus far. Any advice on how to handle this moving forward would be greatly appreciated 🙏
