We are finally out of the woods
This Phal has suffered from courier mishandling, the leaves were all bruised and ripped.
The flower spike bud blasted due to stress and there was root rot.
I only had two good roots left after cutting off the rotted ones. I mounted it for maximum airflow, soaked it every morning for 30 mins. And finally after 3 weeks, I can see new roots emerging. Yaaaay.
Amaryllis in the tropics
Has anyone had success with amaryllis in tropical climate?
My first Orchid
10 weeks post partum and I decided to fully commit to caring for orchids.I have always dreamed of an orchid garden.
But I often put it in the backburner, thinking that I should do it when we get a new place up the mountains. Late into my pregnancy last year, a thought occured to me. What if I try my hand on caring for an orchid, just one, to see if I can manage it. So I bought a single dendrobium.
January came and I gave birth, my dendobium is well and alive. Come february, I asked my husband not to buy a bouquet of flowers for valentines, but to buy instead a cheap orchid like dendrobium. He however bought a more expensive type of orchid, the phalaenopsis orchid. A gorgeous butter yellow blooms.
I felt ready. So one night while feeding my baby, i went online and ordered 12 orchid plants.
Phals, cattleyas, strap orchids, ryncos and dendrobiums. Must be beginners luck as those varieties are hardy according to my research.
And just like a normal human ordering online. I kept checking the parcel everyday at least every 3 hours. Totally normal behavior 😅
It was the highlight of my mundane postpartum days.
And now my collection has grown into 36 different orchids. Orchids made my postpartum journey easier.
