Am I the only one who has an opinion on the ignorance of (especially white) peoples idea of what colonization actually is?

I recently saw a post here where someone from the UK asked whether it’s okay for them to wear a shirt with the British colonial logo of Sri Lanka on it. Which they got printed themselves?

Maybe they didn’t know, just thought the logo is cool and I understand no one needs to know all the logos and flags of every countries history, but once you know… why would you wanna support that? It’s supporting racism, murder, rape, exploitation - basically stuff that happens in wars and the dark web but under legal rules made at the time. How can anyone be okay with that?

Colonial rule feels long ago but to get an idea: my grandparents still remember British rule! People in Europe still go on and on about World War 2, but countries who gained independence from their exploiters decades after WW2 should just forgive and forget? Tell that to a Jew who still has tattoos from a concentration camp.

I appreciate people being chill but I don’t think ignorance is doing us a favor. We don’t need to be racist ourselves or start problems but colonization isn’t that long ago and the effects are still there, plus neocolonialism is still a huge topic among academics all around the world, its present in language, medicine, science, education etc.

Just my two cents.

Ashwagandha/Ayurveda against depression?

It seems to be a trend in other countries to use supplements to combat depression, anxiety etc. People highly recommend magnesium bisglycinate, melatonin and ashwagandha. I immediately tried out the ashwagandha (cause of my Lankan roots obviously) and it was amazing for me, kinda like the effects of weed but short lived and remaining clear headed.

Has anyone else tried it? Spoken to an Ayurvedic doc about it? Is it easily available and in good quality?

I didn’t speak to a healthcare professional before taking it cause docs here (Europe) don’t know much about it and it’s available freely in shops. But I’d advise anyone who’s thinking of it to check beforehand since I’ve read that it can work so differently for everyone.

Finding friends when you don’t fit in

Moved here a few months ago for an amazing job opportunity (there were no others and this one was really good) so took a chance and came to Innsbruck.

I don’t like living here. I don’t want to get into detail cause I’d also be pissed if someone logged into my hometown subreddit just to shittalk. So just clarifying that it’s not my intent but I’m trying to find friends with other hobbies and interests besides the usual stuff found here in the mountains.

I don’t like to hike or bike or climb. I’m more into yoga, pilates, dancing, meeting friends for drinks and heading to daytime/open air raves. Super into houseplants and reading, but also gaming and tv shows. I longboard but I found that there’s no scene here for it whatsoever, just occasional riders who use it to get from A to B :( I once saw a girl with a dancer longboard but she passed so quickly I didn’t get to speak to her.

I miss the big city life of my hometown and I’m trying to make my stay here more worthwhile (besides the job aspect) so I can make better memories before I leave one day. Just staying long enough for it to be ”acceptable“ to leave my job with enough in hand.

Anyone else been in this position? What helped you enjoy the city more?
