Storm an issue?

Moved from out east here and used to dealing with tropical storms this time of the year. Heard from some locals that are really worried about the storm coming which I know we usually don’t get much rain. Their saying we’re gonna loose power for days at a time, major flooding is gonna happen on the lower areas, etc. Should I be running to the store to get all the bread and milk or is this a non issue?

WarPig on server 19 is looking for more people.

We have a discord where we plan out wars and builds. Looking for people who like to have fun, and don’t take the game super serious.

Thinking about getting an Intel Arc B580 for my computer but not sure.

I use solid works at work and home. Work laptop uses a Nvidia pro series and runs solid works great where I’m using it for very complicated assemblies and designs. At home, I main do small 3D prints (nothing fancy, mainly jigs for the other hobbies) and design wood shop projects. It helps me stay fresh on my cad since I don’t do a lot of design work, and it’s fun. My son took my AMD card (can’t remember what version I had but I think it was last gen) since I don’t game anymore and his fried. Really need to get back into designing some wood shop projects but don’t want to take a second mortgage on the house to get a graphics card for lite cad work. Since I’m not doing simulations, rendering, and not massive assemblies (think the largest I’ve done was a raised potting box), do you think I’d have issues with a B580? If so, got any suggestions for a card that I could get that is under 350 USD?

It rained and hailed.

Only for 5 minutes by my house but flooded the end of the road. First time in 2 years I’ve seen it rain like that. Kinda neat to see it all accumulate like that. Out east, we’d get rain like that for a couple weeks straight but rarely flood. Always hear a little shower would lead to some floods but never really thought it would.

The construction in my house is odd…

Bought a house that was built back in the 70’s and I’m finding really odd things about this place as I fix things. Decided to add some French cleats for my shop and the stud placement was just random. Like it ranges between 16 to 24”. No rhyme or reason, just a blank wall that has random stud placement. The electrical is just odd. Son’s fan broke, get a replacement and cut power to his room. Me doing so also cut power to random outlets across the house and random lights in peoples rooms. Really odd how they have the electrical laid out here. Also, why is the electrical panels outside? Never seen that before living here. Always seen the panels in the garage or in a random closet.

Anywho, just random thoughts as I work on this house.

Replacing my broken stove, what to do with the old one?

Stove top broke over the weekend and home warranty is tough titty to me. We found a pretty good deal but doesn’t come with haul away. Being from Memphis, I want to put it by the curb since someone will come and grab it. Lots of junk sellers who cruse up and down the streets looking for junk to fix and resale. Does anyone do that out here? Living in Santa Clara.

Other plan is to move it to the garage and take it to the dump on Saturday.

Give you a general idea, oven still works but the glass top broke. Looked for replacement parts and that was gonna cost between 450 to 600 bucks. Don’t think I could donate it.

Spinrite 3.25 HP router speed controller aftermarket.

Ended up getting a Spinrite 3.25 HP router on Facebook and it’s works great. Started looking and it seems like there is a version that comes with a built in speed controller but I can’t find anywhere to buy that controller after the fact. Doing some googling, I have to be careful getting any old speed controller since this is a more powerful router. Anyone know of a speed controller that I could get that would allow me to control the speed outside of my router table box?

Places to buy tools for cheap.

I found that I can get some woodpecker tools for cheap by keeping tabs on their refurbish page. Jessem has their seconds page but I don’t think I’ve ever found something that wasn’t sold out. Got me thinking if there are other sites that are worth keeping up with. Besides Facebook, Craigslist and other local sites, what sites are good for finding good deals of new, used, or seconds?

Best blower motor for 120 and long runs?

Been mainly using shop vacs with separators but doesn’t do the best job with my jointer, planer, and table saw. Been thinking about upgrading and running tubes across the ceiling with drops to the major tools and maybe some to the floor for easy sweeping. Problem is I don’t have 240 and it’s something I can’t add to the shop. Id most likely either run HVAC duck or PCV depending on what is cheaper at the HD and think the longest run would be around 25 to 30 foot not including the drop.

Think I’m asking too much from a 120 bower motor or is there one out there that can handle what I’m asking for?

Found out today that if your tags are over 3 months past due, cops can impound your car.

Luckily the cop cut us a break but that seems a little intense. We moved from the airport area to Santa Clara. Transferred our cars but forgot my wife’s car. Cop pulled her over and said he’d have to impound the car. She was able to talk him out of doing that but seems a little intense for a mistake. Everywhere else I’ve lived it’s always been that you get a ticket and if you get it renewed before the court date, you can get it thrown out.

Seems odd to say “You need to get your tags renewed but we’re gonna take away your transportation so good luck getting to the DMV, and work.”

Birthday present to myself.

Wanting to get a track saw. Been using a circular saw with straight edges which has worked well but really want to get a better system where I’m not getting saw dust thrown at me and easier to do bevel cuts. I mainly use it to cut down plywood but can see me using it to cut hard wood glue ups. Currently, I have Milwaukee tools and don’t want to get a new battery system around the shop BUT do like the idea of not getting another battery tool. I’ll need to get a track as well and wouldn’t mind getting something that can make 90 degree cuts easier. Safety features is a plus as well. Anything to keep my fingers whole.

Milwaukee Track Saw worth getting or do you know of a wired one that is cheaper that’s just as good or better?

Voting info becoming public?

Why? I honestly can’t think of any reason this is good. You have to pay $1050 to get the info so that will be posted online soon…. Honestly feel like this is gonna get people killed, cause people to loose their jobs, and not get hired.

Can someone tell me a good point to this?
