Edit: And what's the best place for pho?

AI DATA CENTERS - WHERE'S THE TRANSPARENCY?

WHO IS MIKE SCHULTZ?

Residential and commercial real estate developer, land holder, owner of many, many businesses; a private plane, etc., etc. Oh, and Speaker of the Utah House.

Schultz will be in town Thursday, May 21 speaking at the Women’s Republican Club of Washington County. It’s been suggested that he plans to run for Governor of Utah but has little name recognition across the state. Could this be why he's down here?

One way he is tackling that name issue, according to the Utah Dispatch, is with videos. “The Utah House has been paying Northbound Strategies $6,000 per month in taxpayer funds to produce videos of him explaining his policy priorities.” (Yes, WE are paying to help him with his name problem!)

Not sure if this was strategic on his part, but what IS helping his name recognition is his involvement in the STRATOS Project. The proposed AI Data Center up in Box Elder County, approved by a handful of commissioners. Schulz, purchased approximately 640 acres of land adjacent to the proposed project in 2025. Thirteen months before the “rumors” were starting about data center deals with landowners.

According to Elevate Utah, Schultz said in May of this year that he “was 'not made aware of” the Stratos Project' until just a little over 30 days ago.”

They go on to report that “Kevin O’Leary, for his part, told Fox and Friends on April 27 that he had met with Governor CoxSpeaker Schultz, and Senate President Stuart Adams in late 2025 about the project. Schultz told the Deseret News that “Yeah, I wasn’t a part of that” and that O’Leary had reached out, but his schedule was too busy. We (Elevate Utah) are not in a position to resolve that particular disagreement. We will simply note that by the time that meeting allegedly did or did not happen, Schultz’s company had already been sitting on those 640 acres for the better part of a year.”

Seems like there is a lot going on behind the scenes with the push for AI Datacenters in Utah that We The People are not privvy to. We need transparency!

any experiences with St. George Regional Hospital for colonoscopy?

My husband (39M) had a positive FIT test and unexplained low ferritin and very likely has at least some polyps, adenomas, something going on.

Any experiences with St. George Regional Hospital for colonoscopies? Or anywhere really good for colonoscopies in St. George (where they are good at finding adenomas)?

I thought there was a thread about this already, but I can't find it. Looks like there are 22 in Washington county.

Is anybody else really concerned about these cameras?

If so, can we organize? I feel like chances of complaints being heard are better if there are a lot of people complaining about it at the same time.

I have a strange request…

Hello people of St. George! I have a very odd request.
My fiancé and I got engaged in St. George in December. We were out there with friends and it came as a complete but amazing surprise! I absolutely love Utah and where we got engaged, Hells Canyon, was so gorgeous I’m still not over it.
Right before this trip I started getting really into scrapbooking and collected things throughout the trip to make a page in my book but accidentally left everything in St. George :((((( I have had a blank page in my book sitting and waiting ever since.
Now for the weird part: would anyone be willing to go on a scavenger hunt to collect some of the things I was hoping to take home with me?? It would be a really pretty adventure and might take you to some really cool spots!
I’m hoping to get a map of the canyon (Hell’s Canyon) that’s at the trail head, a piece of sage from the area or on the walk, some pamphlets from the Kayenta Desert Rose Labyrinth that’s close by, chop sticks or card from Red Fort Cuisine of India, and if possible a card or pamphlet from Zion Canyon Hot Springs.
Like I said, strange I know. But I have no timeline, can compensate for shipping or whatever else, and am hoping this would just be kinda a fun adventure for someone!

Elevate Utah’s response to O’Leary’s strange diatribe on fox the other day.

I’m a centrist. Against what is happening with ice and data centers. Can both sides of the isle share their thoughts on this response? I thought it was kinda clever. If youre for the the data center, why?

Born into the Miles and Jarvis St. George Pioneer Families in 1896, This Documentary Series Tells the Story of George Jarvis Miles From His Own Autobiography

Born in St. George, Utah in 1896 while his father was serving an LDS mission in Kentucky, young George Jarvis Miles was taught Spanish by his devoted schoolteacher mother before he even started school — a skill that later helped him survive as a teenage sheepherder and serve as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking soldiers in World War I. This is his remarkable true story.

In this episode from George Jarvis Miles’ own autobiography, experience the early life of a boy raised by his pioneer mother. He learned Spanish at home, impressed his kindergarten classmates, milked cows before dawn, rushed home after school to harvest almonds from the family orchard, and grew up hearing his mother’s powerful “crust story” of pioneer hardship during their days of dire poverty.

Raw facts, honest opinions, and real experiences - HELP!

My family and I will be moving to southern Utah. I know...I can almost hear the "we're full" comments lol. I TOTALLY get it, I would feel the same way! I have done extensive research about the area (St. George, Hurricane, Ivins, Cedar City, etc) and the state of Utah as a whole. I have also visited numerous times... BUT there are answers that I can not seem to find and honestly...I just want to hear from native Utahns, transplants, and even people who moved out of the state.

Brief context: My husband has an injury from serving in the military and it is getting worse a lot sooner than we expected/hoped for. He wants to enjoy all the things we love doing together (hiking, swimming, wave runners, star gazing, four wheelers, snowboarding) before it gets difficult for him to do so. Utah may not be our permanent home, but I am hoping it will be our "happiest memories" place. We visited Utah numerous times and did extensive research, but I want to hear from you guys!

  • What do you find to be the most surprising hidden costs of living here (e.g., property taxes, utilities, or HOA fees)? Groceries, gas, vehicle maintenance, rent....what hits your wallet the hardest?
  • Jobs - this is the scary part....but, neither one of us have jobs lined up. How hard is it for an "outsider" to find employment?
  • What surprised you most after the 'vacation phase' wore off?
  • What are the biggest misconceptions outsiders have about Southern Utah?

Also - I know it is hot, I know housing is expensive, I know traffic has gotten worse, I know there are LDS and "cliques," etc. I want to know about the less obvious stuff people only realize AFTER moving there...things you wouldn't think to research beforehand.

Not looking for Utah-bashing or blind positivity - I genuinely just want realistic perspectives. I'd rather know the honest stuff now than get blindsided later.

Local Tattoo Recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m posting on behalf of my wife, her sister, and their mother. They are looking to get a tattoo together and want to get them done all at the same time.

Because of that, we're trying to find a local shop that could accommodate a group booking and has three artists available to jump in at once.

The plan is for all three of them to get the exact same flower, but each person wants a completely different style for theirs (like fine line, traditional, watercolor, etc.). We're hoping to find a spot with a diverse crew of artists who can deliver those different looks during the same session.

They don't need a strictly female-only shop, but they’d love a welcoming, comfortable vibe. If anyone knows of a female-owned or female-friendly shop, or just a solid spot in the area with great artists who could coordinate something like this, I'd appreciate the recommendations!

Let me know if you’ve had any great experiences with group bookings around town.

Thanks in advance!

Daughter wants to audition for Tuacahn. Any insider tips to increase her chances?

She is starting to take things pretty seriously. I’d like to enroll her in some musical theatre classes (or something similar) to help her pursue this, but I don’t want to blow money on something that won’t realistically help her achieve her goals. Are there any specific programs you would recommend?

I Went to Swedish Moose Candy Co.

I'm Swedish from my mom's side, I studied in Sweden as a teenager, and ever since IKEA stopped selling the pick-and-mix candies, I've felt a great hole in my heart where Swedish Candy once was.

When I heard there was a specialty Swedish Candy store opening, I was elated! I had to visit right away!! I got there 10 minutes before it opened, the anticipation and excitement building, as a crowd formed around the door. As they opened, I walked in and actually started crying. I got so overwhelmed with nostalgia and happiness. I missed my mom. I missed Sweden. I had to almost immediately walk to a corner to get out of the way and compose myself.

Oh, the selection! Every kind of candy I had been missing for so long! I didn't even think. I grabbed a bag and got to work filling it with raspberry boats, jelly rats, Dumle, Kex, and so, so, SO much more. When that bag was filled, I grabbed another bag and filled that one, too. I snatched up four Marabou bars from the display, one for each member of my household. I felt like a kid again (in a candy store, lol). I even grabbed one of those tiny 3D-printed Dala horses because, well, why not?

I got to the register, barely even caring about how much I was about to spend. I had glanced at the signs that said "$1.25 per ounce", but that didn't stop my voracious pursuit. My bags were weighed, about 73 ounces for the both of them. The Marabou was added in, and my grand total appeared: $114.56.

Eep. I couldn't very well edit my bags and the candy I had already scooped. I'm sure I couldn't hide my shock. My ghost was probably visible outside my skin, but I quickly moved some money around in my account, made my impulse purchase, and left with an exhilarated yet quivering smile.

The past few days have been a mixture of remorse and "it was worth it". It flips between the two each time I see the candy bags. I have a small handful (or two) every day. I share it with my husband. I'm happy, he's happy, the candy is delicious and fresh, I have no money left until Wednesday, but I have 4 1/2 lbs of candy. Maybe that's all I need right now.

Looking for a magician

I want to hire a magician for my upcoming wedding. Nothing crazy, just someone good with card tricks who can walk around to the different tables during cocktail hour, do one or two tricks for the table, and make their way around the party like that for an hour.

Got any suggestions?
