The fire from yesterday has flared back up and is on both sides of 87 in the area of Cleta and the Chocolate Chip Fire which started down in the south of the county is now just 7 miles from hitting the highway Near Ogg it would be best to take I-27 if your traveling in that area although as far as I know US-87 is still open

Per Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management

A mandatory evacuation has been issued for residents in the Chaparral Villas (Canyon area in Randall County) near Brown Road and Cemetery Road due to an active wildfire incident.

In addition, residents from Canyon Junior High west to Highway 87 are encouraged to prepare for possible evacuation should conditions change.

Residents in affected areas should gather medications, important documents, pets, and essential items now in case evacuation becomes necessary.

Please avoid the area to allow emergency crews to operate safely and efficiently. Residents should remain alert, monitor trusted local sources for updates, and be prepared to leave quickly if additional evacuation orders are issued.
