Buying house in Valencia or Saugus

Hello! I am considering to buy a house in Valencia or Saugus. Looking into specifically West Creek area. When we went to the open houses in that area, the seller's realtors say that there is no issue in getting a homeowner's insurance and no need to get CA fair plan. Is that true? I thought West Creek is in the Very High FHSZ...Is it easy to get an insurance in West Creek even if it's in the Very High FHSZ?

Also, any other areas that people would recommend? I'd like my child to be able to walk and/or bike to their elementary/junior high/high school.

405 north. 3 lanes blocked at Burbank blvd to victory.

Maybe this is old news…plan accordingly.

Stay in carpool lane if you can. ( you are allowed even if you don’t have 2 people- there is a sign) It moves.

AT&T Cellular; anyone noticed degradation and/or unavailability

Since last week my iPhone 16 Max (checked: it's all good) has intermittently been unable to connect to AT&T cellular wireless. Works for a while; then no connection; a restart usually fixes it for an hour or so; then: no Internet, no apps, no synching, no signal.

Anyone else, please?

TIA…!

Free to a good home

Small Italian stone pine. Maybe not doing great, but it’s alive. Wish I had a place to keep it, but it needs to be repotted (into a 5 gallon, I think) to keep it from getting rootbound. Will ultimately grow 40-60 feet tall.

DM me to set up time and place. Any comments or messages saying “I’m interested“ or “is this still available” or the like will not be answered.

Nee Dohs at Sunrise Spirits

If anyone’s kids are looking for some of those Nee Doh things. Or adults. Sunrise Spirits off Mcbean over near Nealies Skillet and where the sports bar used to be. They got tons of them.

I think some are fake. But they have the nice cubes in various colors and they’re legit.

Cheesecake Factory- the vibes were not Gouda

We originally drove to Yardhouse, obviously they are new so it was packed. We thought the wait would be forever so we opted to go across the street to Cheesecake Factory instead….big mistake

Restaurant was empty, hostess tells us it’s a 15-20 minute wait for a table. This didn’t make much sense but ok, we already came over let’s wait.

About 15minutes later, our names called, the hostess take us to the back row close to the kitchen glass. Our table has silverware but prior tables check is still there. Hostess said our server will be back for that any minute…..

I kid you not almost 20 minutes after getting say, and not one came.

We did see someone buss a table next to us, but no server. There were other tables around us as well who all seemed to be waiting.

Normally we would DGAF, but we were starving, 40 minutes in now, getting hangry.

We went to the front, told the hostesses what happend and that we were unfortunately gonna go.

Drove back across to Yardhouse, still packed.

Walk in, Got sat in 1 minute flat, mind you it’s PACKED, and served a drink 3 minutes later.

Yardhouse for the win 🥇

Local Pro Wrestling

I’ve been helping out with the local Wrestle for Autism events, and am looking for suggestions to make it and other pro wrestling shows by the promotion better/bigger. So am curious what you've experienced at other shows in the area which gave a family-friendly vibe or in general appeal to multiple generations.

We’re always looking for ideas on what makes shows exciting while still being welcoming and accessible for everyone, no matter their age or knowledge about pro wrestling.

Would love recommendations for favorite venues, favorite wrestlers, even things you wish more wrestling events could do to be more inviting/better for families, as well as new and casual fans.

Anyone with experience with Newhall school district enrollment lottery?

My wife and I are considering moving to Valencia, but the home school isn't a preferred school for our kids. Does anyone have any experience with going through the enrollment lottery system? How easy/hard was it to get your kid/kids into the school of your choice?

PCP and OBGYN Recommendations?

Hello! I'm new to the SCV area and am looking for a female PCP and OBGYN near Henry Mayo. I've seen a few posts from a year or so ago and wanted to see if there are any new recommendations out there. If there are any to steer clear from, that would be helpful too. Thanks so much!

Lost Parrot in Castaic!

Hello SCV peeps, my dad’s African Grey flew off in Castaic around 5PM last night! He was heard near Parker and Tobiah Place around 9PM, but as of today, hasn’t been heard. If anyone in the Castaic area finds or sees him, please message me. If found, I will compensate you. He’s been in the family 25 years and would hate to lose him at this point. Thank you! 🙏

POC family relocating from the South — honest take on Santa Clarita schools and community for a rising sophomore?

Hi SCV! We're a Black family likely making a move to the Santa Clarita Valley in the coming months for a job in Palmdale, and we are genuinely excited about the area. We've been doing our research but there's nothing like hearing from people who actually live there.

Our daughter is a rising sophomore who lives for choir, theater, and anything related to marine sciences. She's an AP student with a big personality and an even bigger heart; she does best in environments where she feels genuinely welcomed and supported.

We've done some homework on schools already:

**Hart High** is at the top of our list. The arts programs look strong and from what we can find, the school has a solid reputation. Would love to hear from current or former Hart families, especially anyone with kids in choir or theater.

**Valencia** is off our list due to documented racist student incidents in recent years.

**Saugus** doesn't feel like the right fit for our family given the 2019 school shooting. We understand the school has worked hard since then, but as parents we just can't get past it.

A few things we'd love honest input on:

**Community feel:** What's day-to-day life actually like for POC families in SCV? We want to go in with realistic expectations / not looking to be scared off, just want to be prepared and know what to expect.

**Schools:** Does Hart's administration actively support students when issues come up? Any parents in the arts programs who can speak to the culture and sense of belonging?

**Neighborhoods:** Are there areas of SCV that tend to be more diverse or just have a generally welcoming vibe? Open to all of Santa Clarita and the surrounding communities.

**Housing:** We're looking at rentals up to $4,800/month. My spouse will be commuting to Palmdale, so access to the 14 is helpful, but our daughter's happiness and safety in our neighborhood matters most.

We appreciate any and all perspectives — the good, the real, and everything in between. Thank you so much in advance! ❤️
