Internet Spectrum

It went out most of Monday was back yesterday just fine and now it’s out again. What gives? We never even lost power so we’re fairly lucky but it’s just weird that the internet is being turned on and off like this. They can’t possibly be doing work right now at 5am right?

Woman files lawsuit to swim with dolphins

I spent 10 years of my NOAA career working on this regulation. Let’s hope the lawsuit gets tossed and the dolphins get a rest from these people.

TDS water quality sensor elevated after hurricane Lala

I have an under sink Reverse Osmosis system that shows a display of how many Total Dissolved Solids are being filtered out. I kind of assumed the number was bullshit since it was 5-7 the entire year I have been using it. since Sunday night it is now reading 10-15 for the first time since I installed it mid-2025.

Maybe part of the water outages? I never lost water pressure. In Kaka’ako.

How to file a claim for Hurricane Lala power outage damages

Im not exactly sure what is covered under their policy as I'm going to file a claim on my food loss with the DHS since its under EBT and their legalese seems to cover everything but if anyone was looking for this and feels like taking a shot, here you go.

Nearly 200,000 people still without power on Oahu as of 7 am Tuesday

For context, the number of customers currently without power at 7 am Tuesday is only about 39,000. But a single "HECO customer" is sometimes an entire residential building, especially in older condo and apartment buildings where they built them with a single meter. Some buildings use third party submetering for billing but HECO still recognizes the ENTIRE building as one single account. For example if you don't pay an actual HECO bill from HECO you are part of a massive cluster of people that are contributing to a single master account. So the number of individual people being affected is much much higher than what the HECO customer count is suggesting. For example the Ena/Hobron area in Waikiki has a cluster of a dozen or so large high rise buildings all without power; between 12 individual HECO building accounts this is likely affecting over 5,000 people. So assuming the average is 5 people affected per HECO account because of urban Honolulu being impacted by these outages, it's very likely the amount of people without power is 200,000 or more. So if you're still without power you are far from being alone.

Hawaiian Telcom down and not answering phone

Our fiber internet in Kailua Oahu has been down since this morning. Tried rebooting router, no go. Been on hold with tech support for four hours and we haven't even talked to a real person.

Anybody else with Hawaiian Telcom issues?

Honolulu Water Usage - limit use until next week what is ok?

Board of water supply most recent update today says pumping stations are coming back online and to continue to limit water use

“BWS anticipates a return to normal operations by early next week. In the meantime, residents who have water service are kindly asked to continue limiting water use until the official request for water conservation is lifted. Your cooperation is essential in ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need.”

We have been limiting showers and not done laundry - are we meant to hold off on those things until next week ? We don’t have a lawn/no agriculture so all our water is drinking, cooking and cleaning/ washing

UFO Oahu

I was sitting on my balcony on Windward side on Sunday night, enjoying a (windy) fresh air break from our humid house, and I am 99% sure I saw a UFO. It was a blue-ish white, slightly bigger than a star and bouncing around in amongst the other stars. It shot up, moved side to side, and all at a rapid rate. Finally, it kind of slowed and went into a patch where there were no visible stars - and then disappeared. I watched it for about a minute in total shock. Did anyone else see?

Lost USB flash drive

I know this is a long shot, but I lost a small usb flash drive. It rotates and has a USB-A and USB-C side. It's my backup for all my memories and photos since 2015 and I really hate to think that it's all gone. It may have slid out of my bag and dropped somewhere within the last three weeks. I don't usually go out, so I do know what locations I visited within that time frame.

I may have dropped at these locations:

- Dave n Busters at Ala Moana (I only visited this location and have not walked around the mall)

- Royal Hawaiian Food Court (Near Kokoro Cafe)

- Stix Asia in Waikiki (Ramen Bario)

- Regal Movie Theater Dole Cannery

These are the only locations I have visited since I last had it. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to DM me. I know what folders and files are on it, and I know the organizing system I used.

When did food trucks become so expensive?

I just ate at a food truck (Saigon Grill), and paid $37 for a shrimp pad Thai plate lunch. When on earth did plate lunches become so expensive here? It wasn’t just this food truck either, the food truck next to me had local plate lunches starting at $34.

Hawaii health department

Why does Hawaii health department never answer the phone. Specifically the certificate department. Recently gave birth to twins, my husband misspelled a middle name on one of the birth certificates. He called and left a message, I’ve called I don’t how many times left voicemails and no answer. Ofc we can drive there to get it done but idk what information to bring up there to get it changed and I’m not making multiple trips. It’s this normal??
