Took this Tuesday morning. Main st is alive & well

Not sure why anyone would want to open traffic if this is how it looks on a Random morning.

That’s all she wrote. One less corn burrito hot spot.

Are you going to miss it or are you happy that it’s out if it’s misery and excited for what comes next?

Have the police just completely given up trying to stop people lighting off fireworks?

That was a seriously hard night for my dogs here. I get that it's fun to light off a couple fireworks but it's like a warzone on the avenue, and down at the state beaches it was even worse. I am dreading going to the beach today because I know there will be so much trash.

Textured hair

Respectfully Ventura is the least diverse place I've ever lived & I'm still looking for some where to get my hair done as a Black girl without having to go to LA. So if ya know anyone ....

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Am I crazy for thinking there would be an actual parade today?

In 2024, the sidewalk by cemetery park had hundreds of people sitting and waiting for the parade. What’s happening this year? From 10-10:30 this morning I just watched people pack up their chairs and leave. Did I miss the memo?

July 4 Bubbleworks at Plaza Park, Downtown Ventura, CA

If anybody enjoyed my show, please let me know. I wish I was more than one person so I could run machines all over the park, everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Door-to-door Scientology recruitment? Is that normal?

A week ago someone knocked on my door and left a flyer for Scientology. I didn't speak with them, and I honestly wish I had... But I was wondering if this is something other people have seen? I genuinely did not know they went around town to try to recruit people?

For reference as well, I'm technically in Port Hueneme... But I know the location of Scientology is in Ventura. I figure Ventura neighbors would know better than us if this is normal/a regular occurrence.

<<< also asking because i'm slightly scared of them and I don't know what to expect 😭 very purposefully did NOT scan the QR code on the flyer...>>>

JOBS PLEASE

Really trying to find a job at the moment. I have sent many applications the last few weeks and have interviewed with a staffing agency today. Has anybody had any luck with staffing agencies around here? Anybody know who may be hiring? My experience is in a Mexican restaurant that’s now permanently closed in Oxnard, and a few years as a warehouse associate. Thank you guys

Trust/Estate Planning Attorney for a distrustful senior?

I’m way up in eastern Kern county, and my great aunt has a will from 20 years ago splitting her estate between my brother and me. All good except there’s a nice home on a big lot…purchased in the 60s for 29k, and now worth over a million bucks. It’s amazing and I’m not complaining, but the state is going to eat our asses up in taxes. I’m trying to get her to come with me to an attorney and get it put into a trust. I’m making progress but she has no interest in talking to the attorney I know locally and trust. I’m coming down in two weeks and I’d like to try and get the process going. Auntie is healthy, but she’s turning 89 😳

So it would be super awesome if anyone had recommendations for a slow-talking, patient, good-with-paranoid-old-ladies attorney? In a decent office in a reputable part of town? I know it’s a pretty specific request, but I’m out of town and have nowhere to start other than cold calling. And then the in-person meet-up could go so sideways that she’ll never step foot in a lawyer’s office again. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Luke’s on Main

Got the club sandwich with lite sprouts and all I can say is pictures don’t do it justice. The focaccia bread they use is insanely good.

NY -> Venice -> Ventura ?!

From the NE. Moved from Brooklyn to Venice a few years ago, and while I love California, I am looking for something different. Would Ventura be right for me? I've always enjoyed visiting Ventura, Ojai, etc. I LOVE Ojai but feel it may be too small for me.

Just looking for a place that feels safe (safer than Venice...) and welcoming. I'm a mid 30s female and I love surfing (esp Mondos), tennis, hiking, dog parks, cooking/farmers markets. Looking to date/find community of people who are friendly, grounded, and not super dogmatic politically.

Any thoughts appreciated x
