Interesting timing that the HHSA agency in Redding that helps the less fortunate or mothers with EBT will be less available to the public as California will begin enforcing new federal guidelines that mandate CalFresh recipients must work 20 hours a week, or 80 hours a month, or risk a reduction

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is the primary local department that processes and manages CalFresh (food stamps) and EBT will ask employees to do mandatory furloughs making them less available to the public especially with navigating new federal rules.

Starting next month, California will begin enforcing new federal guidelines that mandat that CalFresh recipients must work 20 hours a week, or 80 hours a month, or risk a reduction in food benefits.

Finding a job in 2026 can be highly competitive in Shasta County. Many job seekers are experiencing prolonged hiring processes up to months at a time due to the use of AI screening and intense applicant pools for certain roles while balancing high rent, increasing food costs and utilities.

Interesting timing to reduce services when so many Shasta County residents depend on social services to make it at towards the end of the month in this economy.

Fosters Needed for Puppies & Kittens!

Original post on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story\_fbid=pfbid0vuFkR6NrrBuNK1V9TtQ1fjwpSXedu6DhiQzwyj1oVT7iqV8VsfdLyVyuEaURwtmpl&id=100064842424120&mibextid=wwXIfr

Haven Humane is desperately in need of fosters for puppies and kittens! Our Kitten Nursery and receiving department are full of babies who need out of the shelter. Basic supplies and medical care are provided!

Fostering is a temporary commitment; you provide a safe space and lots of love to kittens and puppies while they prepare for adoption. Kittens and puppies are fostered in groups of two or more. You’ll be matched with a litter that’s the best fit for you, depending on what you can handle!

I have personally fostered both puppies and kittens, and it is SUCH a rewarding and fun experience. You also get 1/2 off the adoption fee if you decide to foster fail 😉 I highly encourage anybody that is able to, to try it out!

You can apply at havenhumane.org/fostering

Redding City Council denied UC Davis from establishing a regional branch here. However wants to pay a religious private school $10 million for a medical physician school while in a deficit.

Shasta Scout:

Two representatives of UC Davis medical school, both of whom are currently working as doctors in Shasta, delivered a presentation on the possibility of establishing a regional branch in Redding as part of today’s county board meeting.

If established here, the regional branch would start with a small batch of students but could eventually grow to a class of 150 as part of a 9-year plan.

UC Davis plans to establish a branch somewhere in the North State, and presenters are hopeful it could happen in Shasta County.

This was a no vote item, sponsored by Supervisor Matt Plummer for informational purposes. He expressed impartiality about whether or not a UC Davis regional branch would be the best strategy to increase local healthcare providers to meet a critical need in the North State.

Crye expressed skepticism about UC Davis’ commitment to partnering with Shasta, given that the school isn’t local. He’s supporting giving $10 million in county funds to a private religious school, Simpson University, to start an osteopathic medical school instead.

Have you guys heard about the proposed motorcycle track they are trying to build at Anderson River Park?

I thought my friend was joking when they first told me about this, but apparently it's real. Anderson City officials are trying to allow Hawk Mazzotto Moto Camp to build a motorcycle track near the defunct RC plane field at Anderson River Park for training and racing events. For anyone unfamiliar with ARP, this is the most peaceful area of the park on the opposite side of the main area with the amphitheater and basketball/tennis courts.

They held a meeting at the proposed site for "public input" a couple weeks ago and although I wasn't able to attend I spoke to some people that did. The tone of the meeting was less about determining whether community members actually wanted a motorcycle track built in the park and more about defending and promoting the project as something that is already destined to happen regardless of community input.

The city’s strong push for this project makes a bit more sense when you learn that Adam Whelen, the Public Works Director for Anderson, has a close relationship with Hawk Mazzotta that was never disclosed to the public. In September 2025, at a Tehama County hearing regarding Hawk Mazzotta’s use permit application on his private property in Cottonwood, Whelen spoke in support and stated that all five of his children attended Hawk’s riding school.

For those interested there is a petition opposing the project:

Clint curtis

Sadly, for the people who support him, this will make no difference. They support him in spite of his many many flaws. I just hope there are still enough sane people in this county who will vote for Francescut

Is it legal for these teens and pre teens to be riding all around neighborhoods on these things? Flipping drivers off, crossing busy traffic? Being complete assholes.

Reputable places to donate to?

Hi guys. I have some clothes/household items I need to get rid of and I'd like to donate them. Any recommendations for reputable places that take donations of various items/item types? Or places that have an easy donation process? I'm hoping to avoid Goodwill all together. Thanks.

PSA: Individual Filming People Around Reno/Sparks for YouTube Content

I wanted to share a quick community PSA about something I’ve seen around Reno/Sparks recently.

There’s a man who has been going to different public locations and recording people — including families, employees, and random bystanders — for his YouTube channel. He tends to approach people while filming and tries to provoke reactions for content.

This post is not about identifying him, naming him, or accusing him of anything. I just want the community to be aware so no one is caught off guard if they run into him.

If you see someone filming you unexpectedly in public:

• Stay calm and avoid engaging
• Keep distance if possible
• Notify staff/security if you’re at a business
• Record your own interaction if you feel uncomfortable
• Trust your instincts and walk away

Again, this is simply a heads‑up for the community. No personal info, no speculation, no accusations — just awareness.

Stay safe out there, Reno/Sparks.

Redding is crazy yall

So the police chief and a local restauranteur dressed like this to rob a bank for the annual lone stranger game. Why did the chief choose to wear an Afro while holding a liquor bottle? And why did the white woman wear THAT mask? In years past it was a bandit, Winnie the Pooh, scooby doo… this is just weird.
