Beginner readers: Ex. spread for "do they like me"?
Nobody asked but here I am giving a walk through on one way you can start to answer that question for newbies.
From my perspective, I see this question or theme of this question all over this sub. The first picture is an exaggeration of a spread I'll see for this question. You're asking a yes or no question and pulling way too many cards to get that answered and then posting you're confused. Listen, I am too. I'm a seasoned reader and there's no way I can start to help you deciphering a pile cards for a yes/no question. It's a word salad.
If you're starting with a yes or no question. Pull one card first and interpret that before pulling more.
Second picture I got Two of swords for "do they like me" which is a yes/no question. If we're going with a binary yes/no answer, this is no. But tarot is not that simple. There's a story here. At a high level this is indecision so then I asked "what's blocking them from making a choice" (3rd picture) and got Ace of Swords. This card is confirming the two of swords overthinking. It also might say that this person isn't wanting to see the truth of a situation or thinking clearly about the situation. Notice how there are no cups yet. This person likely isn't listening or considering their emotions in the decision making process.
I then wanted to ask, "what does the immediate future look like if nothing changes with this person" (fourth picture) and got Nine of Cups reversed. Ah we have a cup/emotions now. This tells me emotions are motivating their behaviors but bc they're not being intentional with them, likely they're making impulsive or immediate reward based choices- nine of cups reversed can be excess or empty pursuits/pleasures. If we're thinking in the relationship, this could look like hot/cold behaviors which tbh would make a lot of sense if you're asking if someone likes you. Clearly not enough to commit and be consistent.
I then asked "what would it look like if this person liked me and was consistent" and got the Knight of Cups (fifth picture). This is pretty on the nose (I swear I was just pulling cards randomly). This is a person who makes the effort to check in, express how they're feeling even when things are hard. I then asked, "what's blocking them from doing this" (sixth picture) and got Knight of Pentacles reversed. This could be several things but the overall message here is if they wanted to they would, instead they're prioritizing anything else but growing the relationship.
I then looked at the bottom of the deck for this person's overall energy and intentions and got the Page of Cups reversed (Last picture). It's crazy how direct the cards were for this example spread. This is lack of interest and emotional immaturity high level.
So taking it all in, this person likes you when it's convenient for them but isn't willing or interested in taking this connection to the next level.
Ready made spreads can be easier if you're not yet comfortable coming up with questions as you move through the cards. A three card one I use often for clients:
- What do they think of me
- How do they feel about me
- What are their intentions for our connection
- Bottom of the deck, the person's overall energy in the relationship
You can also:
- Pull a card for your energy and pull a card for their energy and then pull a card in between you two to get the overall dynamic.
There's honestly a ton of ways to start answering this question. I'd be curious to know what other people like to ask for tarot to get this question answered?
