The second watch was rough, but not for the reason I expected. [ITC Episode 5]

So that I can attempt to view the reunion, I've been rewatching In the City. Which is somehow an even tougher sit-through the second time around 😅. But there's one episode that genuinely made me feel bad for Kyle...which isn't always how I feel. Episode 5 follows his frantic attempt to save Loverboy through a guerrilla marketing campaign.

Full disclosure, before this SH season, I was pretty ambivalent about Amanda as a cast member. This isn't coming from a place of now disliking her. And it's definitely not me defending Kyle by ignoring how much he's done objectively wrong in the past, in their relationship. For whatever reason though, this scene just landed very differently for me the second time around.

Initially, I was more distracted by Amanda screaming at Danielle, despite often saying she shuts down during confrontation. Ironically, Kyle even tried to step in and defend Amanda—right or wrong—only for her to turn around and tell him to stop because he was "yelling over her." I mean... girl. 🙄

This time, though, what really stuck with me was watching Kyle throw everything he had into saving a company he'd spent years building. One that he has consistently said was for their family's future. Which sidebar, 100% reminds me of my granddad—and it has for years. It's a very old school love language (dare I say archaic??) and it clearly isn't the one that best supported Amanda. Having such different love languages isn't inherently bad. Until it is. And in my experience that's usually due to a stubborn refusal to listen, grow, and work towards balance with your partner. That appears to be the case here, unfortunately...so sayeth Captain Obvious 😬

What struck me, was that Amanda admitted she was "half-a**ing" her support. She repeatedly emphasized how busy she was, and said she was only helping because she "really wanted to save their marriage." Coming on the heels of her saying she'd go after half of Loverboy if they divorced, it felt like yet another moment where his work and sacrifices were being diminished. Which, like him or not, is arguably unfair for your partner. Based on her behavior, I was well aware she was over the marriage by that point, but the whole thing still left me feeling...icky.

Did other folks feel a bit sad for Kyle? And was this something that immediately stood out to everyone else? Maybe I was numb to her cold snark the first watch. TBH, it was surprisingly one of the harder scenes for me to swallow the second go. Anyway, that was a novel 😅 I'm probably overthinking it lol
