Apparently unpopular opinion....?

Okay. Time out!!! Let's stop with the negativity and think positive for a minute or 20. What are you okay with where you are at currently? You don't have to LOVE something to be happy.

I'm an env consultant. I dropped my kiddos off at school/daycare this morning, got to work around 9, and have a Phase I ESA to work on, among a few ongoing projects. I will say that I'm not satisfied of where I work today, but I'm absolutely thankful for not having to race to work when I know I can get my stuff done on my own timeline, while still satisfying clientele expectations. I have time to go online like so, and do my own thing. I know I can do so much more, so I am job searching. BUT, I remind myself that I have another huge role to play in life currently, and that is to raise some incredible human beings to go on and do good things in this world, too. I am okay with that right there. Life is always changing guys, and so we shall.

Insert some kind of proverbial encouragement about the environment and world and life and etc. here, and take care of your mental health.

Who is next? What are you okay with?

UAB North Tower- At my Appointment Currently...

I just parked my car in the parking deck by the North Tower about thirty minutes ago, got out and walked maybe fifty feet? Then heard the LOUDEST noise...and then some more. I thought some crane dropped a roll-off bin from a crane or something, then about ten police cars fly past as I'm walking to my appointment....

Prayers if it was indeed was a gun incident.

New, like NEW new to QGIS...

Edited to add: Holy Krakatoa you guys, I sincerely appreciate all the advice!!!! Reddit can truly have a unique community of like-minded individuals helping each other out. Thank you all very much. I'm excited to continue this adventure into a new skill set.

Hello friends. I'm an environmental consultant, with a degree in biology: i.e. I'm not a "computer person." I have decent skills in the regular programs that companies use: Word, Adobe/Pro, Excel, Teams, etc., but I would not call myself knowledgeable in computer sciences.

Having said that, I see opportunity at my current place of work to gain mapping skills, specifically in GIS, because that's what we use to map some of our work. It has also always been very intriguing to me: maps are cool!! I have QGIS on my computer now, and watched a YT video for beginners on making a first map, but I'm starting to see a theme that these people seem to assume we know more skills than what I can bring to the table just yet... Do you have advice on someone that has a goal to at least for now, learn the basics - BASICS: like something that looks like aerial imagery from Google Earth that outlines parcels of property basic - in QGIS?

Do I need to understand Python first? Is this akin to me wanting to learn how to do underwater welding, when I don't even have my scuba license? lol Help me out here (please). Thank you!

Environmental Consultant, Party of 2....

Obviously, I'm in a small firm- a very small firm... We're both salaried, so I'm thankful for that, but this company has gone through some seriously hard times on the env side - with 90% of the team quitting within a few months of each other. That was before my time here. Since then, it has been pretty difficult cleaning up the projects that the rest of the group left behind, and to make things worse, apparently our reputation has been dragged due to some of that drama that I want nothing to be a part of.

The owner is amazing, and truly cares about the people, but I'm going crazy here trying to find jobs and help build the business back up, and I wasn't even hired for that. And before you guys say that this is probably just a dry time, I've been here for a year now, and we're still struggling to find jobs...

There's sooo much more to it, naturally, but I guess I just came here to ask you, the community what your initial thoughts are on this? I don't regret my career pivot, because I'm making more money here than when I was a contractor for the government (crazy, I know), but I'm starting to wonder if there are better places to be... I feel like a racehorse kept in a stall. Thanks for listening to me cry. haha

(Just venting)

You know, I'm really tired of the insurance mafias deciding on what they will cover when a freaking DOCTOR recommends it. Heck, Johns Hopkins recommends it, even. Even my surgeon and original doctor I was seeing cannot stand it.

"Experimental" my a- ...hip!

I thought I'd feel better typing this all out, but I'm just more angry.

Has anyone used him? I'm getting surgery soon. I learned he uses a HANA table with a perineal post...after reading all the terrible evidence against posts, I'm a bit freaked now.
