This is my first year growing pumpkins and its proven to be a challenge at every turn. Ive loved it though!
I have 1 large pumpkin growing on the closer to the roots portion of the vine then these guys.
The ones on another stem off the main stem grew bigger but failed to maintain firmness and became yellow.
How do I help create more pumpkins than the 1 big one I have?
I have finally successfully grown the fruit! Ive had some close calls but they never made it to bloom the flower.
Now I have this one! And a couple others who are smaller.
I placed mulch over the grass thinking it would keep the pests out but I noticed the underside had little ripples and less green. I placed a pot under the pumpkin but it doesnt seem much better. The dirt is from the pot,not rot.
My other pumpkins arent growing nearly as large, and they seem to be less dense than before.
I pinched off a couple growing ends to halt growth.
Anything else?
This is my baby. And the others. I need to get to harvest!! Please!
This spring I thought about doing a small garden, couple veggies and maybe a pumpkin plant if I was lucky. Well my seedlings took off & before I knew it I had a large batch to take outside. Most importantly, my 3 pumpkin plants & 2 cucumbers. I was doing so well until I transferred everything to a 8x4 raised bed. Very quickly they all declined and I couldn't figure out why. After much learning I discovered it was little gnats laying eggs on the backside of everything. My raspberry plants, strawberry and tomato are all infested. Ive sprayed with safer's insecticide, dish soap in water sprayed both sides, tossed cinnamon on the soil, put a mint plant right in the garden in a pot. Finally the yellow sticky traps have been the only remedy. But when it rains they trap water & take a while to dry. Plus everything sticks to them.
We get deer, bunnies and squirrels in our yard daily, which I thought was my worry. I couldnt imagine tiny little pests causing me so much distress.
Does anyone have any tips or advice, or any relatable stories? Im so down. I bought and grew so many exciting plants only to watch them slowly die.
I grew these guys from seeds and now they are thriving! I read you need a lot of space for them but I have a garden bed 8x4 sharing with watermelon, raspberry and strawberry.
Ive read about growing them in a pot vertically, has anyone tried it?
I bite off more than I can chew- but I dont want to give up!
I planted some pumpkin seeds last month and have been excited to watch their growth. Now they are in a bucket awaiting a big garden bed. But I have now( little late) looked into how much space they actually need and Im in shock. Thats half my backyard for 2 plants! And I cant afford that much soil and coverage etc.
I am building a bed thats 8 ×4 but it would share with watermelon, strawberries and raspberries.
Is there any way to grow them vertically? Ive read that some have tried. Any success?
Last night we had the awful discovery of a toilet overflowing and a shower full of feces. The line from the house out must be plugged, or compromised somehow. Today everyone we've called isnt answering even if they have 24 lines.
Thats fine we can deal with this tomorrow or the next day. Are there any plumbers you would recommend?
Ive heard a good one is hard to find. Any experience with polite plumbers?
I know we have about a week, or May 21st (they say) to plant in the ground. Im worried about waiting another 5 days or more for these guys. Everything is started in peat moss. I assumed they would be fine until I planted but the peas have roots growing out of the bottoms and some are long. The cucumbers/watermelon/pumpkins are all stretching for the light and I want to get them in supported buckets ASAP.
Here's the problem: I'm using a led lamp from around the house which has failed decent for these guys since May 1st but I dont see that being enough life for a couple of buckets for another week.
Any advice guys?
Should I do anything about these roots since they wont be seeing soil outside for another couple weeks.my pumpkin plant also has a root coming out.
Im new so I dont know what to do in this situation. Thanks for any help! Last time I posted I got so much helped information I used to redo my old pods and try again.
I know they require a lot of water, and I typically water them in the evening/night. The yellow leaves might be from overwatering, but Im afraid to water too little.
I plants these guys first week of march, is this proper progress?
New to growing food and I really want to be successful. My other seeds are slow but still coming along.
Is there anything Im missing?
