We just got the call and our almost one year old is getting scheduled for her CI surgery this coming Monday! Yesterday we had someone from our states school for the deaf at the house, and she gave us this handout… one of the things that jumped out at me was the tip saying not to use plastic play equipment. Is she not going to be able to play at like the playground? She has just started being able to really join in with her big sister at the park and has been loving climbing and sliding and well, just being a kid. I have never heard anything about CI users being unable to participate in things like this (heck, we even ordered the waterproofing kit so she can do swim lessons and all that jazz with her technology, I never expected something as basic as a playground being off limits when THAT is possible) but also this is all so new and I know so little, so. Anyway is this outdated advice or are we going to need to be tech free to go to the park? Thank you!!

So I’m looking for inspiration because less than a month ago our four year-old got a popular music box I’m not supposed to name drop for her birthday. She has lost or misplaced or hidden 3 of the little figurines that go on top!! I am completely at a loss for where they’ve gone, I feel like I’ve torn the house apart trying to find them- but obviously I’m missing something.

I figure maybe I’ll get lucky and someone else’s kid has done whatever mine has (should go without saying, she has ‘no idea’ what has happened to them), and if not these will at least be silly and make myself and others smile.

Been finding lots of posts about advice around surgery and activation, but we’re not there yet. Our daughter (9 months) has been recommended for CI by her audiologist, on her left side for sure and they’ve said probably eventually on her right side. Anyway- we haven’t had imaging yet, first we’ll meet with ENT and I’m just feeling like I really don’t know what I should be asking about and want to do everything I can to look out for our girl. Thank you!!
