Hot take: Cover of Darkness is kind of terrible if you enjoy “painting the map.”

I always liked the idea of slowly taking over the adventure map, flagging mines, exploring and building this satisfying sense of control over the region. But then Necropolis drops Cover of Darkness and suddenly the map you “painted” just… disappears again.

I mean, I get it. It fits Necropolis thematically, and denying vision can be powerful. But from a map-completion satisfaction perspective, it feels awful. Instead of feeling like I’m conquering the map, I feel like I’m fighting the interface.

It’s useful in multiplayer, but in campaign play it mostly made me think: “Great, now I can’t enjoy the map I just explored and have to go again.”

Anyone else irrationally annoyed by this building?
