The joy of finding a new series

Picked up the first Splinter Cell book about a week and a half ago and now I’m already on book three. There’s something magical about discovering a new series that brings you such joy and excitement. That unrelenting desire to get back to your book whenever you’ve been inconvenienced by not being able to read. Yes, I’m taking about you, stupid work and all other adult responsibilities!

The Basic is fantastic!

Picked up a Basic during Prime week and this thing is a phenomenal ereader! I actually prefer it over my Paperwhite. The text just looks so much better on the Basic and the smaller size is wonderful. Have already read two books on it since I got it last week.

Time to finally relax

Weekend is finally here which means a shit-ton of reading. Perfect time to start a new series. Loved the video games growing up so figured I’d see how the novel tie-ins are.

“Downgraded” to a Basic

Technically I “downgraded” from a Paperwhite to a Basic but in all honesty, for me it’s actually an upgrade. For whatever damn reason, the latest gen Paperwhite reminded me too much of a tablet. The larger size and flush screen likely had something to do with that I think. I wasn’t digging it at all. There’s just something about the smaller size and sunken screen of the Basic that feels and looks like a true ereader to me. This is just my opinion though as I know a ton of you out there love the Paperwhite and I’m not knocking you for it. Just giving you my honest take.

With all that said, I absolutely love the Basic. It’s been a true joy to read on this thing and I love it without a case. It’s light as a feather which makes the reading experience that much better. So I opted for a sleeve instead of a case and it works perfectly for me.

A quiet Sunday evening

Been a busy ass weekend but now finally able to snag some quiet reading time. This one has been on my TBR for years.

A most welcome Saturday morning

I read every weekday morning before work but it’s usually limited to about an hour. And that limitation royally sucks. When the weekend finally comes, that reading time is unlimited!

Blown away by the new Scribe

What a truly amazing device. I absolutely love this thing. The larger real estate for reading has been incredible and I love being able to annotate when I want to. And I’m pleasantly surprised by how nice the color aspect is. I didn’t realize how much I missed seeing book covers in color and being able to highlight in different colors. And more importantly I’m shocked by how lightweight it is. Guess I figured it would be heavy or bulky due to its larger size but that’s not the case at all. Overall I’m thoroughly impressed and it’s definitely one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time.

Squeezing in a little reading before bed

Back when I was reading mostly paper books, I often found it more of a chore to read before bed. Most likely because I was dead ass tired. With a Kindle, it’s been the exact opposite. I gravitate towards it every single night regardless of how exhausted I am. I can’t really explain why this is the case but it’s definitely a most welcome change.

Kindle, coffee, and smooth jazz on the ole playlist 💚

I must say the combination of these three things is quite heavenly. Not bad way to start your Sunday off.

Side Note: This book is angering but honestly an important one. I mostly read fiction but I do dabble in nonfiction from time to time. Keeps things interesting…at least that’s the goal 🤷🏻‍♂️

Starting off the holiday weekend perfectly

Not a bad way to start off the holiday weekend. With all the different options of entertainment out there, I still vastly prefer getting lost in pages. Time to escape to another world 🤙🏼

Side Note: Kill your TV and pick up a book

Opting for the Kindle more and more these days.

I’ve always been a physical book dude. All the magic that involves paper books I ate up and then some over the years. So it kills me to say that these days I find myself actually preferring to read on my Kindle…even when I already have a physical copy of the book I’m reading. I don’t know exactly why other than the fact it’s simply easier to pick up and hold. Crazy how things can change.

My little “hack” for blowing through books

By simply adjusting my font settings to what you see in this picture, I average about 2 books a week. That’s not a lot compared to other bookworms but compared to what I read prior to owning a Kindle…it’s a MASSIVE uptick. Regular books or “book-like” font settings mess with my ADHD really bad. I would consistently get lost in huge walls of text which would lead to frustration and anger, and eventually putting books down. I finally had enough and made this font setting change three years ago and haven’t looked back since.

Side Note: For anyone interested the settings are Open Dyslexic font; Size 9; Bold 0; Line Spacing 4(Max). Hope this helps if you decide to try it.

Time for another Thomas Perry novel

I recently finished The Old Man by Thomas Perry and it blew me away. One of the best spy/assassin/espionage books I’ve ever read. Love it when I discover a new outstanding author. Just started The Butcher’s Boy and it already has me hooked.

Let the journey begin

Been waiting to start this 1200+ page behemoth for a while. I plan to soak up and cherish every moment of it. Already 100 pages in and it’s breathtakingly good so far.

Tough to beat an evening with a great book and some wonderful hot tea 📖 🍵

Side note: How especially amazing is reading on a Kindle when you’re also trying eat and/or drink?! Definition of a game changer if there ever was one.

Just wanted to give a shout out to my Kindle or Kindles in general. I went from reading 20-30 books a year to averaging 75 or more over the last six years. Absolutely insane. It’s made that much of a difference. What an incredible invention.
