Struggling to Get Into Medical Affairs/MSL Despite 2+ Years of Experience

I’m a Pharm.D graduate with more than 2 years of experience in clinical research and medical writing. I also have experience with medical affairs documentation, including preparing dossiers, developing monographs for new molecules, creating scientific presentations, and other scientific content.

However, I’m finding it extremely difficult to break into MSL/Medical Affairs roles. Most companies seem to prefer candidates who already have direct Medical Affairs experience, while referrals also seem to play a major role in getting interviews.

For those who successfully transitioned into Medical Affairs/MSL roles, how did you make the switch? Any advice on skills, certifications, networking, or strategies that helped you get your first opportunity would be greatly appreciated.
