I forgot what day the network test applications opened and just checked on a whim. They opened 20 hours ago! I applied nearly a day late and they give codes in the order people applied in. God I hope I don't miss out because of this.
The last couple months I've been looking forward to today, to getting to see Grian use my Astral Observatory concept. In anticipation I prepared a video trying to predict how he would use it, but also suggesting a few advanced concepts that he could use in the build.
After today's video from Grian, he finished off with a few complications that he would need to iron out in the planning phase before fully committing. And I think my video might well have several solutions already prepared for him! So I wanted to share my suggestions here:
- Increase the star sizes, this will allow for greater visibility of their flickering
- Animate the stars using cloned maps, adding to the flickering effect (this requires special considerations, so may not be viable)
- Use fewer item frames. Not only will this reduce the workload, but during testing I found a limit to the amount of items frames you can use. As I placed more, old ones started to disappear.
Over the last couple of weeks I developed a glitchless teleporter that is multiplayer based and functions simply by relogging a couple of times in quick succession. Since my last upload however, I was suggested a couple design changes to improve it's functionality, and seeing Grian's episode today, I thought he could do with this lifeline. So Grian, I hope this simple machine helps save you in the future!
While testing other ideas in Minecraft, I noticed that cloned maps all update simultaneously. Taking advantage of this, I realised that you can make animated map art. I tested out a few applications of this, but thought it would work really well for Tango's Decked Out 3. Can you think of any other uses that I failed to recognise?
Edit: I've been made aware that Tango already used this technique in Decked Out 2. Just shows I should have gone back and watched his previous seasons. Either way, its still a cool technique I'd like to see more of
