WOW

I only recently started listening to Acid bath and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with them. Historically I’ve dabbled in heavier music but until recently metal wasn’t my main choice of genre. I’m 40yo, and grew up with the nu metal explosion (acid bath are obviously an influence on SOAD). But following this, I liked ISIS, pallbearer, sabbath for eg, and these heavier artists were slipped occasionally into a musical library of mostly indie, punk and shoegaze. However this past year metal has become my primary genre which is a surprise even to me, and acid bath are coming out on top.

This is bitter sweet though as I don’t think anyone else sounds like them; we just have two fantastic albums. The way they weave extreme metal into grunge and alt metal, while being able to craft incredibly infectious and accomplished songs. Also love the slightly dramatic gothic stuff going on in PTT. What a band!

Newbie older metalhead.

Not sure how odd this is, but although music has always been my main passion, it’s only recently that I’ve become obsessed with metal.

I started listening to music around 16, linkin park’s hybrid theory was my entry to music and on constant rotation. That was the first time I’d been bitten by the bug; totally obsessed. Then came SOAD, followed by lots of post hardcore and emo; think Thursday, Thrice, Blood Brothers and more. Still rooted in heavy rock music I guess.

Then in my early 20s it was all change; indie, shoegaze, folk - things got loud and weird, but never heavy; I thought I’d moved on.

Then in my mid 30s I discovered doom by way of pallbearer - loved those first three albums. Listened mastodon and loved them too. Bit still, I wasn’t completely sold, id listen to metal bands for a few weeks and then it would fall off, back to my usual mix of indie, folk etc

Turned 40 this year, and I don’t wanna listen to anything but metal. I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole; blood incantation, agriculture, deafheaven, tomb mould, Vektor and more. It’s like I’m reactivating old well worn pathways from 20 years ago and just feeling incredible excited to be listening to heavier sounds again, and I suspect this is just the start.

Anyone else had this happen? Shouldn’t I be getting into jazz or something?

Bodyweight fitness to gym

Hi all. I’ve been doing the bodyweight fitness thing for a few years now, really hitting my stride over the last year to 18months with a very consistent 6 day a week routine. Currently I do a slightly strange split I guess, but it works for me, all from home. I do the usual pull-ups, dips, Aussie rows, pushups, pikes, lunges, squats, hip thrusts, nordics and various ab exercises plus additional kb curls and ring tricep ext. I weight a lot of these exercises with a weighted backpack and a 25kg kettlebell, with a full body, upper, lower, push, pull, squat split.

This routine take 40-50 minutes a day, after work.

The problem is, I need to temporarily move this into a gym in order to fit my workout in my work lunch hour. Have a baby on the way, a toddler already, and not as much free time in the evening.

Would it be best to do as much of my current routine as possible in the gym? I can’t take my backpack of water bottles and books in there 😂 I feel a bit lost. Anyone else switch between bodyweight and a gym workout? And what do you do?
