Lime Bikes?

I thought that Decatur had terminated its contract with Lime but I started seeing the green bikes and scooters all over town this week. Drove past Glenlake pool on Church St yesterday and there were 10-12 of them outside.

Did something recently change?

How do I report a streetlight issue in Decatur?

I sat at a red night at Glamdale and East Ponce for 6 minutes this morning and it never turned green. Maddening.

Who do I call to fix this? What are the chances it will be addressed?

Moped style E-Bikes okay?

I went out for a bike ride the other day and quickly realized my single speed flat ground bike is not well suited to all of these hills.

I think I'm going to buy a moped style e-bike but before I do, I wanted to check on the issue of policing. I know some of these bikes can fall into sort of a grey area of legality, depending on what settings are unlocked and the power of the motor.

How do the Decatur police approach these? I'd really like to avoid getting myself ticketed for an unregistered MV or having it impounded.

Anyone have experience riding these around town?

I want to apologize to Boards of Canada, to this sub and to the world.

When “Prophecy at 1420 MHz” came out, I posted a somewhat scathing review of the track, which at the time I thought was at least thoughtful and generally well-reasoned.

What it actually turned out to be was one of the most spectacularly shortsighted, hot-tempered, and embarrassingly WRONG pieces of music criticism I have ever committed to these here interwebs.

The response I received was, predictably, NOT enthusiastic. One commenter summed my bullshit up pretty well when they replied "Great writing, terrible attitude.” Yeah -- that was me, and yet still, at the time, I rolled my eyes. Looking back now, that comment absolutely nailed me and as such, even the harshest rebukes thrown my direction on this sub were entirely deserved.

I think the initial problem was that I encountered “Prophecy” without the context of Inferno. For some reason the track puzzled me and my feeble lizard brain wouldn't accept it. Instead of meeting that confusion with curiosity or openness, I arrogantly responded with disdain and contempt. Instead of asking "what could I be missing here?” I confidently declared that everyone else, including BoC themselves, was missing something.

As it turns out, I was in fact the one missing everything.

"Prophecy at 1420 MHz” serves as the perfect gateway into what I now genuinely believe is Boards of Canada’s masterpiece. Their magnum opus. What initially struck me as "plodding" and "soulless" (yes, I wrote that shit) was actually laying the groundwork for something much larger and much more profound.

Digesting Inferno in its entirety has been a singular and life-enhancing experience for me. The album's emotional core is astonishingly deep, the production endlessly layered and crafted with a level of care that signals obsession.

Every listen reveals something new. Each chord change feels impossibly intentional and yet surprising. The musicality here is so meticulously constructed that I feel certain we will still be dissecting this record years from now -- much in the same way we continue to analyze records like The White Album decades after release.

Without yapping too much longer about it, I'd just like to say that it's difficult to adequately describe just how special this record is for me. Some albums entertain you. Other ones impress you but every once in a while an album rearranges your understanding of what an artist is capable of. Inferno belongs in this category.

So my friends, I’d like to offer a sincere apology. First to Boards of Canada for my spectacularly misguided badmouthing of “Prophecy at 1420 MHz" and also to this subreddit, where it has been has been an honor and a privilege to discuss this amazing music over the last several weeks.

Thank you for putting up with my asinine bullshit, my questionable taste, and my thankfully temporary but severe outbreak of Boards of Canada derangement syndrome.

Long live Inferno. Long live Boards of Canada.

All this rain is killing my tomatoes -- help!

I know that I should be thankful for the rain -- our spring drought was bad! But I am also a little annoyed by the damage being done to my tomato plants. During May when it was still pretty dry they went totally crazy despite it being rather cool outside. Now we're in some sort of monsoon pattern and they are suffering badly.

The containers have drainage holes and are lifted up on bricks -- I know they drain because when I water them, water soaks the concrete beneath the pots. I also feed with tomato food and have sprayed with epson salts.

I came home today and to my horror one plant (that has been fruiting nicely) had turned completely yellow seemingly overnight. It's a goner and I'm going to rip it out this weekend and start that container over.

Can anyone offer any insight? I have horrible luck with tomatoes in the south because I always end up getting rained out.

What should I be doing differently?

Best coffee shop in Decatur?

Just got back from 10 days in Seattle and I may have completely destroyed my caffeine tolerance. I drank an ungodly amount of black coffee and espresso while I was there, I'm talking like 8+ cups a day, all while buzzing around Ballard and Fremont on a little 50cc scooter. Honestly, it was an amazing time but sort of concerning for my nervous system.

Now that I'm back in the D I'm trying to find some good coffee spots around town. Mainly looking for places with a nice atmosphere as much as good coffee. Somewhere I can hang out for a while and read a book while notching up anxiety levels bit by bit.

I of course did a Google search but Reddit tips are usually way better. Curious what people’s favorite spots are. Any and all recommendations are appreciated!

Sol Duc

Not the actual falls but on the trail on the way up. These rocks looked so vivid and hi-def! Love this area of the park.

I know about the posted signs, but I have seen people on electric bikes coming in and out of here well past 10 PM more than once.

What are the legal risks associated with quickly walking through Decatur cemetery at night? It lays in between downtown and my apartment and seems like it could be a pleasant shortcut.
