Uyuni Tour

Hey all. I'm in La Paz atm, with an overnight bus booked for the 10th getting to Uyuni on the morning of the 11th. Will be looking to do a 3-day salt flats tour. I keep seeing people online saying they got their tour for $100-150, but I can't find anything remotely in that range. I've WhatsApped a bunch of operators that have been mentioned on here (recently) and have been quoted more than double in some instances what people claim to have paid.

Would be super grateful for:

  1. Any operator recommendations under $200, but preferably in the $100-150 range.

  2. People's thoughts on whether it makes sense to rock up to Uyuni on the day and try get a tour there. My bus arrives at 6am, I don't really speak Spanish, and I really don't want to have to spend a day / night in Uyuni. Alternatively, does it make sense for me to try find a tour in La Paz whilst I'm here?

Thanks so much in advance!

Salt Flats (Uyuni) Recommendation

Hi all,

Hope you're well! Looking forward to my upcoming trip to Bolivia in October. Will be looking to do a 3-day salt flats tour and was wondering:

  1. How much should I expect to pay as a 'good' price? I've seen extremely differing prices from different people, so would be good to have a perspective of what's normal.

  2. Does anybody have any recommendations for operators? I'll be in La Paz before, so I can go into offices if that's helpful.

Thank you so much in advance! Any help is much appreciated.

8x42 Question

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the advice :) I ended up finding a pair of Monarch M7s for the same price as the other pairs I was looking at, so bought them.

Hi all!

Looking for a pair of decent entry level binos. Main purpose is for an upcoming trip to LatAm for use in the rainforest and on hikes, but will also be used for hiking and birdwatching back in the UK. I understand 8x42 is probably the best all rounder for these purposes.

Currently am thinking about the Celestron TrailSeeker ED or the Athlon Midas G2 UHD models, both of which can be found for about £300 here in the UK.

I haven’t been able to find any direct comparisons, despite the fact these are both quite popular models. Does anybody have a perspective on which is the better shout? Feel free to suggest other models (am not looking to spend more than £300).

Thank you so much in advance :)

Altyn Arashan Hot Springs

Hi all!

Will be driving along the south side of Issyk Kul next week, and just had a couple of questions regarding hot springs.

  1. I understand there are a variety of hot springs at the top of the Altyn Arashan hike, in the valley, but the only one that appears on Google Maps is the natural pool by the river - (https://maps.app.goo.gl/fJYqD68DHLNgNgex6). Does anybody know the location of any other springs in this area / have any recommendations?

  2. At the bottom of the valley, in Ak Suu, there are a number of other hot springs. The springs connected to the old sanitorium are currently listed as closed on Google Maps (https://maps.app.goo.gl/7PitBxB9cghVARhs7 / https://maps.app.goo.gl/YN1L71ZM9NZZBVA36). Is anybody able to confirm if this is accurate?

Thank you so much in advance :)
