Refund from Boliviana de Aviacion?

Hello,

I was in Uyuni yesterday and all flights were cancelled due to the snow. It was a big mess with no communication to customers, but our tour agency informed us that the airport was closed and organised a long transfer by car to La Paz so that we didn't miss our flight back to Lima.

We managed to get a written communication from BoA on WhatsApp that the flights were cancelled.

I am now looking for help on how to get these flights refunded from BoA, if some Bolivian on Reddit are used to it or other tourists experienced the same issue.

Any advice is welcome🙏🏻

Bolivia Road Update for Travellers // Snow Closures - August 19

For anyone currently travelling around Bolivia there was heavy snowfall which caused some road closures and restrictions in certain areas.

Yesterday was a bit crazy with buses stuck on the highway, flights canceled, and limited transportation from towns like Uyuni, so I wanted to share an update to help anyone that might be stuck on the road or in more remote areas.

Bolivia's highway authority (ABC) released an official update today. Here's a simple translated version of the routes that are affectes:

La Paz >>> Yungas via La Cumbre: CLOSED until further notice.

Unduavi >>> Chulumani: CLOSED due to road damage. Alternative route is via Yolosita to Coroico to Puente Villa to Chulumani.

La Paz >>> Oruro: OPEN, but travel with caution.

Oruro >>> Cochabamba: CLOSED at the Confital/La Cumbre sector. Other sections also require caution.

Potosí >>> Uyuni: OPEN, but use caution around Pulacayo/Qonapaya/Lapaya.

Patacamaya >>> Tambo Quemado / Chile border: OPEN with caution.

Chuquisaca & Tarija: Snow has been reported, but according to ABC the main national highway network has not been affected.

For those in Uyuni >>> Eduardo Avaroa Reserve is also closed...

I wanted to translate the official notice because this information isn't always easy for international travellers to find in English. We always rely on local updates to operate our tours safely and reliably, so I think its important to share this information for everyone.

I also saw one other person comment that they were stuck in Sajama, so I hope this helps! We had one of our guides stuck on a bus in the snow overnight, and we just want to make sure everyone is safe becaue there is usually a lack of preparation for big snows in Bolivia because it is uncommon.

IMPORTANT: Conditions can change quickly and everything is obviously weather-dependent, so don't treat this post as a guarantee that a road will still be open later today or tomorrow. Check current conditions before departing, especially for overnight buses or long-distance road travel.

I've attached the original ABC notice for anyone who wants to reference the Spanish-language source.

Safe travels in Bolivia! Happy to help translate/explain any of the routes if you're currently here and unsure whether your itinerary is affected... and most of all stay warm!

Bolivian Airlines - La Paz to Uyuni

I have booked Uyuni salt flat tour 2 days and 1 night in October. The tour starts at 1030 am. Bolivian Aviation flight arrives 8 am from La Paz But I concerned if there are delayed. Could anyone comment on options

  1. Take Bolivian flight arriving day before / hopefully can find things to do in Uyuni for day.

  2. fly from La Paz the very same day hoping for mo delays

3). Take overnight bus from La Paz arriving early morning. I’m not sure how comfortable it would be. I am in good health but no longer a spritely 20 something but am in mid 60s,

Gracias de antemano

Visiting both Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna logistics

Hey! I've found the boat schedule for Isla del Sol but I'm not sure what the best way to add a visit to Isla del la Luna would be. Are there direct boats between the two? A way to go in a loop from Copacabana to one then the other then back to Copacabana? Not wanting to do a tour.

Thanks!

Itinerary for Bolivia

I plan to be in Bolivia in early October
for 6 - 7 days after brief stops in Mexico and El Salvador. My flight arrives at 230
Am on October 9 from Bogota.

I would like time to visit La Paz, Uyuni, and Santa Cruz de la Sierra. From Santa Cruz will fly on to Asunción, Paraguay.

Traveling my own, retired senior in good health. Soy bilingüe. I would be interested in walking but no mountain climbing because of altitude.

What would be an ideal number of days in each locale. Most likely would fly between cities unless there were a a comfortable bus ride between La Paz and Uyuni and Santa Cruz

Also recommendations for boutique accommodations as well in each locale.

Gracias

I'm planning some mountaineering, though I think I can only do 2 of these summits. Please rank them for me to help me decide. Also feel free to recommend another summits!

Night driver/guide to/from Unduavi/Pongo

This is a very specific request, but in all my searching I have struggled to find a way to make this happen.

There are a few species of harvestmen which can be found a bit past Unduavi and near Pongo as per maps which I am seeking to photograph. Normally I would look for any close by accomodation, and seek a guide/driver from them to get to location, but all I have found nearby is a very expensive lodge.

Is it possible to get someone who can drive me from (Say La Paz if there is no closer accomodation) and wait whilst I seek out the organisms to photo (I am experienced in finding them/navigation/jungle navigation, though in this case it seems there are obvious paths/roads, getting to location and back is the issue). Is there somewhere I would be able to find a reliable driver for the night to do this. Time would be a few hours + drive time. Estimates of cost would be cool if possible to guess.

This would be in the next 10 days.

Thanks in advance for any info that puts me closer to achieving this.
