Laptop broken after MicroCenter diagnose
I have a six year old Asus studio book pro x w730. Had it since it came out aa my workstation. Took care of it well well. It has getting too hot recently and check my cpu that it was going way over.
Mouse was stuttering so prob graphic issue.
But I wanted to the further investigation to find out what was causing the issue so I searched Asus to find the local Micro Center as affiliated tech service center.
I explained everything along with fan rattling.
After the stress test they said the GPU failed and prob because of motherboard. They searched and Asus no longer makes this motherboard.
Since cpu gets hot when I play games but not as well when I edit videos so I wanted to fix the fan and repaste the cpu and cpu with thermal pad.
I just wanted to get fan& heatsink replacement parts and replace it my own.
Went to pick I up just now and what do you know...
They damaged one of my 2tb m2 ssd
Since it's raided I can not boot up.
The pc was running fine before I dropped it for $50 diagnose and now they said it's because of my motherboard and had virus.
Only thing they said they could do was to reinstall fresh windows which will wipe out everything.
I have more than 3tb worth of work in there. Since it's raided to 4tb, Im left with 2tb without ever gaining a hope to recover the file.
This is so frustrating and one thing that drove me nuts was the tech was asking others "Who worked on it, did you work on it" to the other techs. All gathered up inside to talk what happened. Also asked me if my computer booted up normal before. Of course it booted up fine. That's why I gave you my pass code to log in.
They put it into ez bios mode and just left me with no boot up. I went back in and they were like oh it's because of the motherboard and virus you had.
No joke. That would not break my raided ssd. Come on...
I dont have any other option except to reinstall windows and hopefully the parts they stress tested are okay. This is so dumb and frustrating for me since it was supposed to be a simple diagnose. Disgusted to see the tech implying it is my fault is not something I would expect from the giant company.
Update
After a call with Microcenter supervisor, I just received a text from Microcenter which is 2hr later.
"This is the Micro Center Service Department. We performed one final test to verify whether the unit would boot into the operating system. During testing, we rearranged the two drives to ensure they were installed in the correct locations. After doing so, the unit successfully booted into the original OS.
Your unit is now ready for pickup."
This tells me they did take out my ssd before and did not properly reinstall them in order. I told them multiple times it's raided 4tb. That text me is basically saying 'Sorry' without actually saying sorry in corporate environment. They imidiately started a new ticket while I was having this issue at the show and offered a fresh install is nonsense. Like they sound it like they are doing a big favor. Hey I can install new window my own. But checking ssd in order for raided ssd is not something you would know as a technican, that's basic, then how can anyone trust you with the building up a pc with them?? Anyway, I will make an update as soon I pick them up again. I will make sure it boots up correctly and has all the file before I step out the shop.
