Worst lower back flareups I’ve ever felt. Don’t know what to do

The past month I’ve been having on and off flareups in the middle of the night that are really bad I wake up with sharp stabbing things to the point that they make me yell from pain. Last night I had one of my worst ones and I was not able to move for a walk and usually the sharp stabbing pain will last for about 30 seconds to two minutes on my lower back and hips but then go away but last night it lasted for about two hours and I couldn’t figure out how to lay or stand and it was the worst thing I have ever felt.

I am currently waiting for my insurance to approve Humira but I don’t know what to do for now because even when they approve it I saw it takes about three months or more to start helping out. Is there anything I can do for now to help with this pain? Has anybody gotten any shots in their back or anything like that? I cannot bear this and I am scared to go to sleep.

1 year later, scared how this will look when I’m older.

I impulsively got this tattoo. Idk how I feel about it sometimes. People have complimented it, but sometimes I feel like it’s too black and I’m scared it’ll just look horrible when I’m older. Should I start saving up for tattoo removal? lol.

making progress

Saw a rheumatologist from UM today (first time seeing one since getting diagnosed with AS). She made me feel hopeful. she prescribed me humira, 40mg every 2 weeks.

I’ve seen some stories here about insurance nightmares, and wanted to know if you guys have any tips for navigating this part of the journey now. I have Oscar insurance.

They tried to put me on ibuprofen 600mg and meloxicam 15 mg in the past and it did not help. I wake up yelling at night sometimes from really bad stabbing pains in my lower lower back and hip area and the pain is worse than it has ever been. I really don’t want this to get delayed because I haven’t even been able to sleep lately and the medication takes time to start helping anyway, so time is of essence.

Anything I can do on the insurance side? To push for that approval?
