Living Room PC - ~$2k (Xbox Replacement)

  • New build or upgrade? New

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links): LG C2 65 in OLED TV

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games): Gaming, Streaming; Wife plays Sims, Stardew, and ESO. I play basically anything and everything. MMOs, RPGs, RTS, Online FPS, etc.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?: USA; No

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations): Around 2k USD (+/-$200)

  • WiFi or wired connection? Both would be nice. I don't know if I will move it one day or not.

  • Size/noise constraints? No size or noise constraints really. Will probably have it on a hardwood floor outside of the actual entertainment center etc so shouldn't need something super compact. I can include a picture of the area it will probably be in that helps? Noise wise, I don't want it to sound like a jet engine about to take off of course, but don't think it should be too much of a concern. Open to suggestions here.

  • Color/lighting preferences? Black, No lights etc. Looking for something that just blends in

  • Any other specific needs? I would like to have a decent amount of USB connections. Thinking I'll need ports for wireless mouse, keyboard, controllers, headset, and possible externals drives that are loaded with movies etc. Open to suggestion here as well.

I will value high framerate over high powered visuals, so I think a ridiculous smooth 1440p is fine even if the TV can handle more. Open to seeing what can be come up with to get the most bang for the bucks. Happy to also have parts that will be easy to upgrade later if prices come down etc. Also this is just core components. OS etc will be outside of this budget

Car rental/Taxis when arriving late in evening

Hello! Will be in Raro in January and want to hire a car. My flight will be landing around 11 pm on a Friday in mid January. Would it be better to book the hire ahead of time (a lot of the places I have looked at don't seem to have pickup options after 11) or just try and get a cab to our Airbnb accommodations that first night, and then work out getting a vehicle the next day?

I appreciate everyone's advice on what is probably a far simpler matter than I am making it.

First Timers in January

Hello friends! My wife and I will be traveling to Rarotonga in January. I know that it is the wet season for the islands, but coming from the PNW in the US we're used to wet weather so I don't think it'll be much of a deterrent for us. I do wonder how much we should take that into account when planning lodging options (one side of the island vs the other). I know the cyclone predictions aren't really released until October so any generalized advice is welcome.

We'll also be in the area for two weeks. The general vibe I've gotten from exploring this sub is that is a lot of time on any one island. I would welcome any recommendations on activities as well as potentially visiting multiple islands etc.

I would be more than happy to provide any more information that might help with suggestions!

Cheers
