Richard Jackdaw
Hello.
I’m still in the middle of playing and haven’t cleared it yet.
About Richard Jackdaw — why was he lying collapsed deep inside the cave?
During the exploration along the way, the protagonist said something like, “Strange. Jackdaw was a thief, yet there’s no sign he took any treasure.”
They also speculated, “The spiders must have appeared after Jackdaw died (Jackdaw didn’t fall victim to the spiders).”
I’ve been under the impression that Jackdaw was beheaded by the sword of the ancient magic guardians in order to eliminate intruders — is that correct?
I seem to recall Percival Rackham saying something along the lines of
“We’ve arranged it so that only those worthy of receiving the power can reach this place.”
So Jackdaw (unwillingly, on his part) failed the trial and was killed.
But if that’s the case, I don’t really understand why his body was deep inside the cave.
The treasure chest was in front of the cave.
To reach the space guarded by the armors, there were numerous large-scale gimmicks, and I don’t think those were put in place after Jackdaw was killed.
Building a large bridge and so on looked like something only a powerful wizard could have created, and moreover, in Percival Rackham’s trial the same gimmicks that appeared at Jackdaw’s grave were used.
That means the cave Jackdaw entered was created by Percival Rackham and the others, right?
In other words, even when Jackdaw entered, the scenery the player saw (minus the spiders) should have been spread out before him, and Jackdaw should have seen plenty of treasure chests.
So why didn’t Jackdaw steal the treasure?
Also, Jackdaw said, “I thought a breeze blew from behind me, and then I was dead,” and “Watch out for the breeze.”
But the breeze was only blowing right after entering the cave; there was no wind anywhere else.
At first I thought Jackdaw had been killed by someone right after entering the cave.
I figured it was something like magical spiders with extremely sharp limbs, or a band of thieves, or the like. But as the story progressed, I reconsidered and came to think he was killed by the magic prepared by Percival Rackham and the others.
That the armors that attacked the player were the ones that killed Jackdaw.
But in that case, where exactly was Jackdaw killed?
If it was at the cave entrance, it would make sense, but did the armors really go to the trouble of carrying both Jackdaw’s head and torso, along with his belongings such as the torn pages, all the way deep into the cave?
And after carefully transporting all the remains and belongings all the way to the end of the gimmicks, the moment they entered the trial chamber they just carelessly dumped them? Why would the armors act that way?
Or did Jackdaw, despite being a thief, ignore every treasure chest and advance all the way deep into the cave, only to be killed from behind in the trial chamber?
Is the “breeze” the wind pressure of a sword cutting through the air?
Is the answer depicted in the game?
I haven’t cleared it yet, but I’m curious.
I’m posting this as a memo because I’m worried that if I just keep playing I’ll forget the questions I had.
Sorry for the intrusion.
