Is it possible to replace my old-cultivar fescue lawn with new seed without nuking it?
Last fall I reclaimed a lot of weedy areas around my backyard using the guide on this sub. So far it's been a wild success. But the quality of the new fescue cultivars is soooo much nicer than my legacy front/backyards, which have coarse and disease-prone cultivars.
I plan to again follow the guide to deal with areas that have some nimblewill (and other issues) that weren't as urgent last year. I will be spraying with sublime/surfactant where needed is this and other areas, if that matters.
I wondered: while I have the new seed from twin city/US seed, is there a way to (slowly?) change the composition of my existing lawn? I don't expect to get it done rapidly or even be perfect. It is not worth nuking or ripping things out. But is there a method to gradually replace what sits in the lawn now? Maybe dethatch the area and overseed with the new stuff each growing season? Would a long-term mix of old and new stuff be janky?
