Electromagnetic shielding high gain contact mic recordings

I have an assortment of contact mics made by Jez Riley French, Metal Marshmallow, and Oaka, and I’m finding electromagnetic interference occasionally prevents me from getting a clean recording in many urban environments, especially when I need to drive the gain up for a quieter sound source.

This is especially noticeable with the Oaka mic as it probably has the brightest frequency response and highest sensitivity of the lot, but the same interference is audible with Metal Marshmallow and JrF too.

I’ve tested my equipment (FR-AV2 and MixPre-3 II on batteries and on USBC powerbank), to verify that it isn’t self or other tech noise, and that it is indeed from the environment.

Do you know how I might combat this issue in a way that’s readily deployable in the field?

I’m looking for unique sounds — what are the most beautiful, interesting, or strange sounds you’ve heard in Copenhagen?

I’m visiting Copenhagen soon for work (beer stuff at MBCC), and one thing I really love to do is to search out unique sounds to capture as part of my field-recording practice.

Are there noises or sounds that you think are unique to Copenhagen that you could recommend? They don’t necessarily have to be nice sounds!

My practice and equipment allows me to focus on underwater, electromagnetic, subsonic, plain old atmospheric (ORFT stereo), physically transmitted sounds (via contact mics) and ultrasonic sounds, so please suggest anything at all you think might fit this bill.

In London I previously spent some time recording on the intertidal zone of the Thames capturing sounds of mud-larking. In Hong Kong I’ve captured everything from bats to the trams and Star ferries. In Manchester I’ve recorded bees feasting on sunflowers, unidentified underground insects, and even the sound of moss!
