Cornell internet discourse is making me sick

Seeing all of these people spout a bunch of horseshit about the Cornell case is making me ill.

Things like directly implying or just flat out saying that girl deserved what happened to her, that she made herself “easy prey” or that she actually consented to what happened for xyz reasons, that rape culture is a made-up fairytale, insisting that fraternities are not spaces where this behavior is often permitted and even encouraged…

The amount of comments like this I am seeing is making me jittery about the men around me. It’s really setting me off. I’m not close to a lot of men in my personal life (I spend most of my time around other women) and it doesn’t help that I and many of my friends have had several negative encounters with men in the past week while out and about minding our own business.

Are these kinds of men really everywhere? Is this ever gonna change?

I have been a victim of rape/sexual assault as well, and this situation is bringing up a lot of intense personal feelings for me. Maybe I need a break from the internet for a while… but everyone is talking about this right now, it’s a difficult subject to avoid.

Has anyone here ditched alcohol for cannabis?

Just curious what the r_sx crowd thinks of this.

As I near my mid twenties, my body’s tolerance for alcohol has pretty much bottomed out. On a night out I can only have about 2-3 drinks, and even still I feel like shit the next day. I really love beer and cocktails, but lately, the hangover/headache/sluggish feeling/price is just not worth it anymore.

I’ve started ditching the drinks for weed and I think I prefer it. I feel more relaxed, more in control of myself, especially if I’m out and about in a situation where id typically be drinking. It helps me sleep after a long day/night, and no hangover/sluggishness in the morning.

If you’ve also made this choice, why? Or if you haven’t, why not?

Trouble relaxing in the evening.

Hi all. I take a 35mg dose of Vyvanse for ADHD every morning at around 8 or 9am. I find it really effective, it has seriously helped me regain control as I navigate an increasingly complex school and work schedule. I have found it to be life changing.

However, it comes with one significant drawback for me: By the time I am finished with my day (about 12-15 hours after taking my meds) and come home to relax, I find it really difficult to do so. When there is nothing to do and I am home in bed, I like to wind down as a prerequisite to sleep, and sometimes I read or mindlessly scroll for a bit.

The problem is I just cannot turn my brain off. Oftentimes I’m not getting to sleep until around 3am, even when I put the phone/book away and try laying in bed in complete darkness. Relaxing almost feels like a task in and of itself, and ironically, one that I procrastinate doing. Not getting enough sleep long term is really not sustainable, so some days I skip my meds, especially on the weekends, and sleep in.

I would really like to know if there is a solution for this. Do I need to lower my dosage? Take my meds a little earlier? What do you do to chill out after a long day when you’ve taken your meds?

Is it actually possible to stop thinking about things you don’t want to think about?

It’s 3am and I’m having a sleepover at my friends’ house. We had a really nice night. Hunger games and wine and pasta and massages and whatever. I always feel so grateful when i get to spend time with them. I really feel that my friends understand and love me deeply, which is why this next part is so confusing:

As we are all winding down to go to sleep, and a storm is rolling in, I am laying in the dark on the couch, experiencing deeply painful emotional turmoil and loneliness (to the point of tears) followed by suicidal thoughts. What the fuck? Why am I thinking about this? Today was a good day.

My life isn’t all sunshine and roses all of the time, but generally things are good for me. I consider myself a happy and confident person. For some reason, though, I get these sort of random bouts of feeling the COMPLETE opposite. Utterly useless, worthless, pathetic, etc.

In the moment, inside my head, I try to change the subject to something I would rather think about. Daydreaming about the future and whatnot. But for some reason things circle back around and I keep ending up back in the dark place. It’s like an endless thought loop.

This time it just happened to be at a friend’s house, but about once every couple of months I sort of have an “episode” like this. Mostly I keep these to myself. Sometimes the evidence leaks through the cracks, I may break down a little bit but mostly people don’t know. I dislike the idea of being someone who cares about what others think, but even more than that, I dislike others knowing about this pain because it’s so hard to explain it.

I guess I just really want to know if anyone else in this sub who has experienced this knows how to deal with it. It’s starting to scare me. If so, how do you redirect your brain so you can get some sleep? And for the record, no, I don’t truly want to die.

There is a possibility that all of this is because I took my vyvanse with coffee this morning and didn’t eat until 7pm and that I will be fine tomorrow. Or maybe there really is something wrong with me.
