I just don't get the hate that this gets.
Don't really have anywhere else to post this and I just wanted to vent some frustrations.
I finished the current anime season and then read to chapter 430 in the manga, so I'm speaking from that.
Maybe my views are warped or something? I don't know. But some common complaints I've seen that I just flat out disagree with:
There's no progress and constant resets. Are the people saying this oblivious or something? There's constant progress and I've yet to see one real reset at all, just some roadblocks. Are they just mad they're not boinking already or something? It's pretty clear virtually everything happens for a good reason (they even constantly show flashbacks to every single important moment). Maybe I'm just naive? I don't know. But this is my number one complaint? How the hell is there no progression? All I see is progress. It's been one long story that's told a linear narrative. Everyone has progressed. Some a lot, some a little. Even the romance has definitely progressed. I just don't freakin' get it.
So and so is just being delusional and cruel or something to that affect. It shouldn't take this long, etc
Now, this one really bugs me. It's fictional. It's a comedy. It's not real life. It's not realistic. I see people constantly applying real life logic to everything and it's frankly weird. Like, holding Kazuya being a hornball against him (which, save for certain specific moments, is usually just stupid comedy relief and fan service), or complaining about his red flags and such. He's a cartoon character, for crying out loud. Same goes for Chizuru in the opposite direction. She's being indecisive and maybe too cruel, but she seems pretty aware of it, and again, things happen for a reason. Ruka is a whole bag of worms! She's practically a walking talking trope. Hell, the whole story is full of common misunderstanding as a story mechanisms that almost every romantic comedy anime ever has had.
Anyways, they're not real, it's not real life. That logic just doesn't work, IMO.
- What I think might be misinterpretations of story length vs real life length
I think people, especially manga readers, just get annoyed because time has practically slowed to a crawl in the manga, where days take real life months to play out and such. I think that leads to at least some people having their view on time in the series get a little warped, and readers getting real frustrated.
One complaint I do definitely get though, is that stuff is way too elongated. It IS frustrating, but it is what it is, and I'm probably a little biased because I read nearly a decade's worth in a span of a few days, but still.
I just don't get how glacial pacing and the other stuff turns this into "trash" or "on the level of reality TV" or whatever other common things people say.
Is it going on too long? Yeah probably. I still like it!
Anyways, I just wanted to vent. I'm an old guy, and sometimes I just think I'm real out of touch with modern anime fandom or something.
