Hey guys, hoping yall can steer me right. I'm 30, have had a pretty rough life, and now that I'm free to go where my heart desires I'm just overwhelmed. Originally from PA, was brought to WA about 5 years ago and now I'm kinda stuck here.
Got divorced last year (sorry, lesbian divorce rates), sold my land, came back to civilization and looking to settle down solo. I have epilepsy and cannot drive, but that's my only limitation. I've lived off grid, in cities, in towns... I'm strong, sturdy, useful, responsible. My living's made as a cook but the industry is depressing. I meet people by offering to labor on the farm, muck stalls, harvest stuff, weed gardens. I prefer being outside. Capable, creative types are my people.
Can you think of anywhere there's use for me? I've tried other subs for advice, but I'm not online much and everyone tells me to just move to Portland/Seattle, which is less and less helpful every time! At least name a neighborhood or town outside the metro lol. So partly, it's less of a place and more of a community I'm looking for.
So, what I want to know is: where can I go where I could catch a bus and/or walk around town (REASONABLY, doesn't have to be perfect), see some trees, sit by some water, just LIVE but in a way that's not as high-octane as the city?
Hey y'all, I've got a lease ending next spring and I'm looking to settle down for a while. The gist of my situation is I've sold my place, so about $140k sits in savings plus whatever I can set aside between now and then. I'm in the restaurant industry, and I walk/take public transit. I'm a 30 year old human.
Currently in TriCities, WA and hunting down a place with similar amenities/access but greener. The bus system is pretty good, for example, but it could be better. I dig the river access, but there are so few trees. Diversity's alright where I live, but overall it's still a red city struggling to accomodate sprawl. Re: sprawl, I've been thinking of getting a bike but that's its own investment.
Lived a few years off-grid-- my jump to TC was a situational necessity. I wouldn't really prefer to live in Seattle, Portland, or Spokane proper but I dig a blue zip code. Pullman and Eugene have both caught my eye, but I haven't visited long enough to understand these places in-depth. I need a small city/big town with access to nature and a bus or reasonable trek into civilization. College towns are good for this, and I've been taking road trips to explore, but plenty of y'all know the territory better than I do.
I want somewhere to call home. Considering a very small house/trailer where I can get a deal on a longer-term lease. I can afford to live alone and would prefer to keep it that way. Where could a cook find a job, live a quiet life, have a small garden, and go hiking on my days off? Where can I, with relative ease, take my little shopping cart on the bus for groceries? I'd like to stay in WA/OR though I'm all ears if you have big opinions on somewhere special. Thanks!
