



On August 9, 1988, the Kings acquired Wayne Gretzky, Mike Krushelnyski, and Marty McSorley from the Edmonton Oilers for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, first round picks in 1989 (Jason Miller), 1991 (Martin Rucinsky), 1993 (Nick Stajduhar), and $15 million.
On August 1, 1973, Bob Miller became the voice of the Kings. Miller served as play-by-play announcer for the Kings for 44 seasons, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000.
On July 30, 2005, the Kings selected Anze Kopitar 11th overall in the NHL Draft. In 20 seasons, Kopitar set team records for games played (1,521) and assists (864), and retired with the most points in franchise history with 1,316 career points.
The Kings then selected Jonathan Quick 72nd overall in the third round. Quick set franchise goaltending records for games (743), wins (370) and shutouts (57), won two Jennings Trophies, three Stanley Cup rings, and captured the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012.
On July 23, 2021, the Kings selected defenseman Brandt Clarke eighth overall in the NHL Draft. In four seasons with the Kings, Clarke has 15 goals, 66 assists, and 81 points in 185 games.
On July 18, 2004, the Kings invited Sidney Crosby to their development camp in El Segundo, California. Crosby was later drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005.
On July 15, 2024, the Kings re-signed Quinton Byfield to a five-year, $31.25 million contract. In six seasons with the Kings, Byfield has 75 goals, 116 assists, and 191 points in 339 regular season games, and 14 points in 23 playoff games.
On July 12, 2013, the Kings re-signed defenseman Jake Muzzin to a two-year, $2 million contract. In eight seasons with the Kings, Muzzin scored 51 goals and 213 points in 496 games, 20 points in 50 playoff games, and won a Stanley Cup championship ring in 2014.
On July 10, 2022, the Kings re-signed Adrian Kempe to a four-year, $22 million contract. In those four seasons, Kempe led the Kings in scoring with 140 goals and 288 points in 321 games, and recorded 14 goals and 25 points in 21 playoff games.
On July 6, 2023, the Kings signed team captain Anze Kopitar to a two-year, $14 million extension. Kopitar broke Marcel Dionne's record for most points in franchise history in his final season with the Kings, and retired with 1,316 points in 1,521 games.
On July 2, 2009, the Kings signed free agent defenseman Rob Scuderi to a four-year, $13.6 million contract. Scuderi recorded 53 points, 236 hits, and 444 blocked shots in 306 games, and won a Stanley Cup championship ring with the Kings in 2012.
On July 1, 2018, the Kings signed free agent left wing Ilya Kovalchuk to a three-year, $18.75 million contract. Kovalchuk scored 19 goals and 43 points in 81 games with the Kings.
On June 29, 2022, the Kings acquired Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild for Brock Faber and a first round draft pick (Liam Ohgren). In four seasons with the Kings, Fiala has 105 goals, 140 assists, and 245 points in 288 games.
On June 28, 2012, the Kings signed All-Star goaltender Jonathan Quick to a 10-year, $58 million contract extension. In 2011-12, Quick backstopped the Kings to their first Stanley Cup championship, and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
