It’s so weird, it does it even when the engine is fully off and just accessories on. It happens on maybe 50% of startups and I’ve never heard anything quite like it. It lasts for about 30-60 seconds and then stops abruptly.

Title says it all, pictured is the voltage meter on my 04 cv. I’m asking because it just looks low compared to the scale of the whole gauge. The car has no issues that would indicate low power, cranks right up and the displayed voltage stays where it’s at consistently with tiny amounts of variation in reaction to driving. Just curious because I haven’t had the car for long and want to know if I should break out the multimeter.

I just bought this 2004 Crown Victoria lx sport off of marketplace with 138k miles. About halfway into the 2 hour drive home the check engine light lit up after previously being off (shocker I know) I ran the codes and my scanner came up with p0406/p0108. Circuit voltage high for egr and map sensor. I’m almost certain the seller cleared these off before I came to look at it but I’m not mad I got a great deal on it anyways. I’m not super familiar with this type of issue and I’m hoping to get some advice on the best way to approach this issue because I’ve come across a ton of information online and I’m not sure what the best route to go is. My first instinct is to parts cannon it and just swap out a new egr and sensors and hope for the best- it seems that some people have had success with this method but I saw a lot of information saying that it could be related to other electrical faults. The car cranks right up strong and runs and drives great. All that I’ve noticed is a slightly rough idle and some vibration/roughness while accelerating, as well as some pretty poor fuel economy. Anyone else have experience with this type of thing? Seems like a clue that I’ve got both the codes and not just one or the other but I’m not sure what to make of it and would love to hear some advice! Thanks in advance!

What is this thing? What’s going on here? I poked the spike with a stick and it retracted back inside the beetle.
