We’re plunging deep into the annals of butt rock history tonight for a special edition of Karoake at Cafe Nine.
Some folks have asked what butt rock is - it’s typically late 90s/early 2000s alternative rock like Fuel, Creed, and Staind, but it can also include glam rock like The Scorpions, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, basically any music that a semi-unemployed dude would do push-ups in his mothers basement is fair game.

I started training maybe 5 months ago at a really great gym that focuses on technique. The coach needs to approve you for sparring because it’s light and technical (for the most part, the guys training for fights go harder).
I got approved for sparring and have been loving it, today was my fourth session. I’m focusing on breathing, remaining calm and loose, etc, but I can’t help but notice so much of my technique just goes to dogshit when I’m sparring. Is that normal? I know there’s a learning curve with everything but I don’t want to get used to fighting sloppy and half-assed when it’s go-time, or feel like I’m un-learning all the technical stuff I’m focusing on during the actual class. Or if this is just a normal beginner hurdle for new sparrers?
