Looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a habitability issue in CT.

My roommate and I rent an apartment in New Haven. The unit is on two circuits, but nearly everything (bedrooms, bathroom, living room) is on one of them, so running the AC trips the breaker constantly. We have called maintenance around 12 times. Their electrician came out, replaced the breaker twice, and told us that we “will probably not be able to keep all of your rooms air conditioned.” Their solution is for us to just run less AC and be careful about usage.

The result is that the apartment is currently unlivable. It has hit 100 to 105°F inside. I ended up in the emergency room after heat exposure at home, got IV fluids, and was kept overnight. We also have a dog who has been panting and showing signs of heat stress. Right now we are both crashing at friends’ places because it isn’t safe to be there.

We have documented everything: temperature readings with photos, the full email thread, medical records, and the electrician’s own statements. We submitted a formal written complaint to the management.

What I’m trying to figure out is what actually moves the needle here. A few specific questions:

1. Has anyone gotten results from New Haven’s Livable City Initiative or the Fair Rent Commission? Worth it?
2. What actually got your landlord or management company to act?
3. At what point is it worth talking to a tenant lawyer?

Not trying to start a fight, I just want a livable apartment or a way out. Any advice from people who have been through this in NH would help. Thanks.

I witnessed what I think is an ICE abduction at MCO (Orlando) airport today on a flight heading to Tweed and I am trying to reach any group that might be able to help identify this person and alert their family, get them assistance, etc.

This person was taken in MCO before the flight departed so I’m trying both local FL, CT, national resources but I am having trouble reaching anyone.

Any advice on who to reach out to is appreciated.

This evening, a man on a motorcycle tried to attack me on the trail in Edgewood park. I always walk that trail, and today I was walking with my baby and a man on a motorcycle (i think blue and black? It had a bright blue light and was a louder motorcycle/moped sort of bike) almost hit me and my stroller as they drove by. I heard them yell something, then turn around and come back to me. He started saying something to me but it was hard to hear over his bike, but after a few times of me saying ‘what?’ He said ‘Let me grab that ass’ I instantly recoiled and screamed F*** no, and he started to drive closer to me and reached out to grab me. I started screaming and running away, and at first he tried to go after me but finally turned around and drove away towards the skate park.

This was unbelievably scary especially with my baby, and I did call the cops and filed a report. I doubt they’ll catch him but by the way he acted towards me it feels like its just a matter of time before he hurts a woman. He was hispanic with light skin, chunky, black short hair and a black moustache (no other facial hair, just a moustache). He also has a severe lisp, so he more so said ‘Let me grab that athhh’

If anyone happens to have info on this man please let me know, and please be on the lookout for him especially women! It is only a matter of time before he actually hurts someone, and only left after he realized my screaming was more trouble then it was worth. But he definitely was cotemplating following me when I started screaming and running away. Im never going on that trail again, which really makes me mad because its such a nice trail. I saw multiple other families there today as well, one just a few minutes before he tried to get me.

hi folks, july 4th marks this country’s independence day and the second time my (desperate decision please don’t judge) mandy management apartment has been flooded / ceiling burst! get the cake out!

my apartment ceiling flooded terribly back in May due to the roof collecting water and no proper draining system (from what I was told). It took almost a month of me bothering the management people for them to send someone out to do the roof and then for them to fix my ceilings and walls, just for all that work to be ruined once again today, but it’s so much worse this time.

I am honestly really lost and hopeless and trying not to rip my hair out. I was in contact with the living city initiative and submitted a fair rent commission complaint (did both again) but it’s saturday and a holiday weekend so i’m assuming nothing can start to happen till monday.

honestly just needed a place to vent and would appreciate any advice / support/ suggestions. also if anyone knows a cat friendly one bedroom for under $1500 with some utilities, hit my line!

I thought I would book a one-way car rental but I'm having the most frustrating time with Hertz (can't use my points). All of them are $150+ anyway which is so frustrating!!

Does anyone know someone who offers a ride service to JFK? (Not through an app.) And what are their rates?

ETA: I did consider the train. Unfortunately my flight departs at 8 am, and the earliest Metro North train arrives to grand central at 6 am. So that timing is no bueno. My decision now is Budget car rental (cheaper than Hertz) or the Go shuttle. (Or two private people that have been recommended here! Just waiting on their quotes.)

Does anyone know what happened to the restaurant? They’re closed. Their sign was removed from the building. In the last year or so I noticed less and less people went to eat there. Their review rating is really low. I googled them and it says temporary closed. I’m just curious. Did they go out of business or just moving to another location?

Why? I showered in it. Will I die? When will it clear?

Hi all! Was curious if anyone had recommendations for day trips like 45 minutes outside of NH. Small towns with cool shops that aren’t necessarily Mystic but have more stuff like Theo’s in Wilton. Thanks!

Is United Illuminating (UI) the only electric provider? Or are there other options as well?
