I absolutely loved Edgar’s quote here ripped from the comics and repeated in episode 5x05 about Homelander because it’s true. He really is an empty suit. It’s very easy to project onto a blank canvas like Homelander. Both he and Soldier Boy appeal to the darkest impulses and fantasies of power and what power may look like to people who often feel powerless.

But for all the claims that Hughie is the unremarkable one, between Hughie and Homelander, only one of them had found the courage to leave the nest he came from once he realized he outgrew his environment. And only one has learned to evolve into a man that is cherished and loved by his found family.

Meanwhile, Homelander has stayed with Vought even as he took over the company and gained his own autonomy. He remained within the confines of the place that created and abused him. He chooses to work and live with the existing infrastructure. Because it’s the only home he knows, a forever stunted little man.
