Advanced Pianist Question for fingering "Twelve Variations on 'Ah vous dirai-je, Maman' "
Hey fellow pianists!
This is a question more for advanced pianists, as it has less to do with what's easily practically (but some of that does apply to my red fingering), and it has more to do with the tonal implications. However, feel free to chime in no matter what skill level you're at of course!
From measures 33-35 (the first 3 measures in the image), I use the fingering 4-3-2-3-2-3-4-3. That part is fine. However, on measure 36, I'm wondering on which fingering to use.
- "Blue" Top Fingering Option #1: The fingering here would be similar to what I used before with a slight change to adjust for the next measure: 4-3-2-3-2-3-4-1. Tonally, this fingering would stay more consistent with the previous 3 measures that it's part of. Rudolf Buchbinder used this fingering.
- "Red" Bottom Fingering Option #2: This fingering is less about tonal consistency, but more of giving my right-hand a break. I feel like by the third measure in my picture, my hand feels something weird, and has a slight chance of being uneven on the fourth measure in the picture when I use the Blue fingering. However, the Red fingering provides a bit of a break of that repetitive same-note fingerings on the E. The fingering here is 3-1-2-1-2-1-3-1.
Originally, I was thinking that Blue fingering option was best, especially since a professional pianist used it. However, my girlfriend (who's also a classically trained professional pianist) convinced me that I could probably achieve the same tone with the Red fingering while giving my fingers a technical break right there.
I'd also just like to hear other people's opinion on these fingerings! Please let me know what you think!
