Begginer rugged radio alternative

A couple weeks ago I went down to the sand dunes with a crew and a lot of trouble could have been dealt with had we had a better way to communicate. I've been researching rugged radios to find that they are pretty subpar for the price. I have no problem piecing together something especially if there is a lot of information on it and if I can do it for half the price. I'm pretty new to gmrs But not afraid to learn as I'm pretty proficient with a lot of electronics.

The two biggest things I want are the intercom feature that rugged radios have. So that way I can talk with my passenger as being in a dune buggy. I have no Muffler and it's open cage. So that makes having a headset pretty important and being able to Bluetooth for music would also be a plus the second thing is I want to be able to use a radio for my party with said headset. So any suggestions on what to look for or where to start would be awesome. I appreciate you guys for your time!

Local 101 Kansas City

Hey there, I'm a former Millwright trying to get into something with a little better work life balance. I've considered becoming an operator but I was just curious if anybody has dealt with getting in the past couple years. Is it a pretty quick process? I know you have to score an 80% but what are they even really testing you on? And if I score good enough am I going to be able to start pretty quickly?
