1916 IRT subway car. First full FDM test print

A little update on the 1916 IRT car I’ve been working on for the elevated railway project.

The model is mostly finished now and this is the first time I’ve been able to put the complete body on the elevated structure and station. Seeing it in place definitely helped me catch a few things I still want to tweak.

This test was printed with a 0.4 mm nozzle. I’m actually pretty happy with the rivet and window detail, but I think this model is right on the edge of what makes sense with a 0.4. I’m going to pick up a 0.2 mm nozzle and see if i can print the smaller details, particularly around the windows and front/rear panels.

I also modelled a basic interior since the windows are large enough that an empty shell looked a bit strange.
I’ve decided not to 3D print the running gear. I’ll use ready-made bogies and metal wheelsets instead. At this scale I’d rather have reliable running gear than force everything to be printed.
Still a few adjustments to make, but the car itself is getting pretty close.

WIP update: 3D-printed modular elevated railway has a station platform now

A quick update on the elevated railway project I shared a few days ago. The first full-size station test is assembled, with the platform, staircase, and canopy now in place. Still needs some tweaks here and there.

I designed it as a modular system. The canopy supports slot into the platform, while the roof prints flat and is folded into shape. This is still a test print, but the fit and rigidity turned out better than I expected.
Next up is the central ticket/station office, longer platform sections extending in both directions, and more steel detailing beneath the tracks.

The dude is OO scale. I couldn’t property print him in HO scale with 0.4 nozzle.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

HO Scale Elevated Railway System

Hi everyone! I've been a long-time reader of this sub but this is my first time posting.

Over the past month I've been designing a modular elevated railway system for HO scale. My goal has been to capture the look of early steel elevated railways while keeping it practical for FDM printing and easy to expand.

It's still very much a work in progress, and I'd really appreciate some feedback. Does the structure look convincing? Is there anything obvious that feels missing?
