Chow personality: Puppy vs adult?

Hi all, just looking to hear everyone’s experience with this! I have a chow puppy and while I have owned chow’s before, it is my first time raising a puppy. I wanted to ask: if he is very friendly and outgoing as a puppy, will this continue into adulthood? Or do they become more fearful/aloof as they age?

My puppy is friendly with strangers and wags and loves to be petted. I have had him for three weeks now and he still enjoys meeting people. He is from accomplished and titled show lines, so not sure if that makes a difference in temperament.

We are socializing him a ton in public and doing puppy classes as well.

Have your friendly puppies stayed friendly? Or is it just a phase?

Any Chows that do dog sports? Post your pics/videos!

I would love to see some chows doing sports! Agility, bite work, dock diving, anything your chow loves! I am interested in trying agility as a fun training and socialization experience for my new chow puppy. I know we won’t be the fastest but i think he will have fun! Pic for tax of my baby, he loves splashing in the pool.

How to prevent elbow dysplasia? I am so worried

I am raising my first chow puppy and i am so stressed about him developing elbow dysplasia. He LOVES to run and play with his 5yo sister chow. She is very fast and he can hardly keep up, but he will run and run. I’ve seen advice saying to stop them from hard exercise until their joints are done growing, but HOW? He of course isn’t allowed to do stairs until he’s 6mo, but what else can i do to help prevent it? What is everyone else’s experience with elbow dysplasia? Pic for tax.

Hi, posting again since i got very little feedback last time. I have two King pigeons that i recently got and the hen has what i believe is respiratory distress. She tailbobs and has audible breathing. I also notice a possible beak deformity where her lower beak is wider than her upper beak?

I have attached two clips of them, the first is her breathing and the second is the two of them together for comparison. The male is on the left and the female is on the right.

The cage is only quarantine so please don’t judge the size.

I have her on Enrofloxacin and Doxy-Tyl, as well as vitamins in the water. Today is day 5 of antibiotics and i see pretty minimal improvement. She is less nasally but still panting like this. She is eating well and drinking, and generally acting normal.

Is there anything else i can be doing to help? Should i try a dewormer for air sac mites? The only vet i have access to does not specialize in birds. Thank you for any advice!

Hi, long time dove owner but new pigeon owner here. I recently purchased two King pigeons from a swap meet and they have audible and visible respiratory distress. They are quarantined for the time being. The female is worse than the male since she pants and tail bobs, but he is nasally when he coos. I know nothing about their background, only an estimated age of 6 years old.

I currently have them on pills of Enrofloxacin BID and plan to start Doxy-Tyl SID today. I also plan to add Oasis Vitadrops to their water for any deficiencies they have. Does this sound like a solid treatment plan? I’m hesitant to keep adding more pills since i’m worried about aspiration. Any advice to keep them comfortable is appreciated.

Edit that i forgot to mention: my mom is a veterinarian so she helped me come up with this plan, so yes a vet is involved

Hi everyone. I have a white ringneck dove named Sugar. She was my boyfriends before i met him and he has had her around seven years. We assumed she was a boy for the longest time since she was very vocal, laughed a lot, and has never laid an egg. But surprise— her DNA test came back that she is a girl!

I am considering getting a second dove to keep her company but not sure if i should. She is very tame and enjoys spending time with us. She has been around other birds (parakeets, cockatiels) that my boyfriend has fostered in the past with mixed results. She tried to slap some of them with her wings, but also tolerated some of them trying to mate with her? We didn’t allow them to spend a lot of time together though, always caged separately.

Is getting a second dove a good idea? Should i get a male or female? Is it too late for her to bond with another dove? She has spent her whole life as a lone dove.

Please share similar experiences and advice. Thank you!

Hi everyone, first time hydrangea grower here. I jumped the gun and bought 25 bare root Blue Nikko hydrangeas that are 6”-12” tall and they are going to be here Friday! I wasn’t expecting them to ship so quickly and I don’t know what to do.

Zone 6 (St Louis MO)

The plan: plant them on the east facing hill behind my house in my partially shaded/sunny backyard. Sounds great in theory but the dirt there is absolutely terrible red clay and i’m not sure if the timing is right.

Here are my questions:

—Should i pot them first to let them mature a bit before putting them in the ground?

—How do i prep the red clay soil to get it good for hydrangeas? What kind of potting mix/additives is best?

Please help! Thank you for all advice!
