RC100 — Broken rear-wheel spoke and wobbling wheel after 5 months. What should I do?
I bought a Decathlon RC100 on 8 March 2026. This is my first proper geared bicycle, so as a beginner, I did not thoroughly inspect the cycle when I purchased it.
I have been riding it normally since then. From the beginning, I noticed that the derailleur was not properly calibrated, which was causing inconsistent gear shifting. I thought I will get it corrected at local shop
Yesterday, while checking the gears, I noticed that one of the rear-wheel spokes was out of place (see video). I took the bicycle to a local cycle shop, and they told me that the spoke is actually broken and that the rear wheel is wobbling (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O5TDIW3cJ9b3XHd-JCU4i9Bcw-OrohxW/view?usp=sharing).
As far as I know, I have been riding the bicycle normally and have not had any accident or major impact. I am therefore surprised that a spoke has broken after only around five months of normal use. I understand that wheels/spokes can require maintenance, but I am wondering whether this could be considered a warranty issue, particularly since the bicycle is relatively new.
The nearest Decathlon store is around 40 km from me, and I don't have a car, so taking the bicycle there is not particularly easy.
What would you suggest as the next step?
- Should I contact Decathlon customer support first and explain the issue?
- Should I ask them specifically for a warranty inspection?
- Is it safe to ride the bicycle 40 km to the Decathlon store, or should I get the wheel repaired locally first?
- Has anyone with an RC100 faced a similar broken-spoke/wobbling-wheel issue and successfully had it resolved under warranty?
Any advice from RC100 owners or people familiar with Decathlon's warranty/service process would be appreciated. 🚲 Please help me in this issue.
