med school disappointment
Hello everyone, let me be proof that some parents are never satisfied, even when you fulfill the stereotypical “Asian parent dream” of getting into medical school.
I recently got into medical school in Australia, where admission is incredibly competitive (or any medical school in the world tbh). But because it was a lower-ranked university, my parents were disappointed. They wanted me to get into a higher-ranked one, where I was waitlisted.
When I later got off that waitlist and received an offer, they congratulated me—but quickly added how “lucky” I was that someone else had given up their spot. They then complained that it still wasn’t one of Australia’s top medical schools.
Thankfully, I like medicine and have always wanted to help people through some of the hardest moments of their lives. I’m doing this for myself, but man I wasn’t expecting this reaction from my parents.
Peace out ✌️
