Is this a respectful way to approach a girl in Algeria?

I’m a male university student, and I’d like some honest opinions, especially from Algerian girls.
There’s a girl in my university that I’ve known superficially since last year. We studied together last year and we’re in the same class again this year. We’re not friends and we don’t really know each other personally, but we recognize each other. When we make eye contact, we usually smile and greet each other, and we’ve had a few small interactions.
I’ve started liking her personality and I’m interested in getting to know her better, but I haven’t told her that.
Since this is our last year at university, I’m thinking that maybe in a month or two, if I get a good opportunity to talk to her when she’s alone, I could be straightforward but respectful and say something like:
“I wanted to tell you something. I like your personality and I’d like to get to know you better. If you’re interested, maybe we could exchange our socials media.”
My question isn’t whether she would say yes or no. I’m more concerned about whether the approach itself would be considered disrespectful or inappropriate in Algeria, considering that we only know each other superficially.
If you were in her place, would you find this normal and respectful, or would it feel uncomfortable because the guy isn’t already a friend?
And for Algerian girls specifically, would you prefer a guy to be clear about his intentions like this, or would you rather he first become friends with you and only later show romantic interest?
I genuinely don’t want to make her uncomfortable or give the impression that I’m disrespecting her. I just don’t want to graduate and later regret never trying.
