Old Time Capsule still worked after 5 years unplugged

Found my old AirPort Time Capsule in storage, hadn't touched it in 5 years. Powered it on, had to reset it to reconnect, then copied a few files off without any errors. Haven't gone through everything yet.

Anyone beat 5 years?

[OC] Storage drives plotted by read speed vs. capacity

Each dot is a real drive available on Amazon. Four categories: NVMe SSD, SATA SSD, SATA HDD, and portable. Log scale on both axes. The highlighted dot in each category is the best value pick.

I made a tool that tells you what size drive to buy

You know how you buy a "1 TB" drive and your computer says it's only 931 GB? And you never really know what size to get for your games or photos anyway?

I built a small tool to fix both. You pick what you store (games, photos, or backups), type how much, and it tells you the right drive size. It also shows the real usable space.

Storage Size Calculator

The site earns a small Amazon commission if you click through and buy a drive.

Would like to know if the size it suggests feels right to you, or if anything is confusing.

What actually matters when picking a storage drive for a gaming build?

Been learning PC hardware lately and honestly a bit lost on what specs actually matter.

Like does sequential speed matter for games or is it mostly random read? Is PCIe 4.0 worth it over 3.0? Does anyone actually care about heatsinks?

What do you look at when picking a drive?

Built a tool to find storage drives, thinking of a gaming focus

I’ve been learning about PC hardware lately, so I made a small side project called DiskHunt find and compare storage drives more easily.

It started as a simple filter tool for SSDs, but I added more options like NVMe, PCIe 4.0, heatsinks, and speed ranges. I also built a basic scoring system to rank drives instead of just showing a long list.

I’m thinking about shaping it more toward gaming setups (like people building or upgrading gaming PCs), but I’m not totally sure which filters actually matter most in real use.

It’s still pretty early, so I’d really appreciate feedback on the filters and whether the scoring idea makes sense.

Gaming PC storage in 2026, what size actually makes sense?

My teenage son is thinking about upgrading his gaming PC. What storage size do people think makes the most sense these days without overspending?

He uses Steam a lot, so it’s easy enough to redownload games when needed. But at the same time, it’s nice to have enough space so you don’t have to keep uninstalling things all the time.

What would you recommend for a gaming PC in 2026? And besides storage size itself, what else is worth thinking about when buying storage today?
