My remote came in today! And here is my girl math that proves it’s basically free:

Happy dance here! I hesitated for a few months before I decided to just go for it and order the remote. I know girl math doesn’t officially math but I wanted to feel better about spending money. So here’s how I justified my purchase:

I’m currently at 458 hours of reading for 2026, with about 4 months left in the year. My current pace puts me at roughly 724 reading hours by December 31. 724 hours ÷ 365 days = 1,98 hours per day.

Now, the important part… I bought the €29 Kobo Remote so I can turn pages without taking my hand out from under the blanket when it’s cold.

Girl math says:
€29 ÷ 724 hours = €0.04 per reading hour in a full year. And the remote reaches my personal definition of “basically free” — €0.10 per reading hour — after only 290 hours of reading. At my current pace of 1,98 hours per day that would add up to roughly 5 months.

Conclusion: by the end of January 2027, with my normal reading habits, the remote is financially irrelevant. Therefore, I am not spending €29. I am investing four cents per hour in blanket-based reading luxury.

The math is sound. I will not be taking questions at this time. 😂

A lovely Sunday morning with my KCC

Croissants in the oven, the smell of coffee, sunlight seeping in through the window and a new book that I started last night. (Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie) I have nowhere to be today and I’m looking forward to spending a big chunk of the day reading.

447 hours of reading since late December, when I got my KCC. I posted about this before but I can’t get over how much this device helps me to read books instead of mindlessly scrolling on my phone for hours on end. And I know the BW has a better screen but nothing beats the sparks of joy I feel when looking at my book covers in color.

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

I’m finally reading this :)

First of all, I love my ereader because all my books fit in any bag. I’m having a me-day. Drinks in the sun, a new book, nobody asking me what’s for dinner. And don’t even assume I’m going to cook for myself tonight!

This book has been on my tbr for a while. As a massive horror fan, this scratches my itch just right. Female rage, slowly turning into horror. I’m halfway through this book and I’m enjoying it. I like that it’s cut up in short chapters. I like how easy it is to read. I like how it teaches me things I’ve never experienced as a Caucasian woman. (I’m shocked actually, I knew things were bad because I’m not blind. But reading books like “bat eater” makes me cringe at the level at which women experience racism combined with, or on top of, misogyny)

I can’t wait for the “snap” that feels inevitable at this point in the book. I’m rooting for Ji-won!

Molka from the same author is my next read. I’m looking forward to it!

400 hours on my KCC ❤️

I’m on my 45th book since the end of December when I got my new e-reader. That’s more than I read during the total lifespan of my dear old Kobo Aura!

The Aura was my first e-reader and I loved it at the time but it was sooooo slow. When my screen got scratched moving into my new house, I stopped reading altogether for a few years.

I’m so happy I got this KCC for my birthday because it totally kickstarted my drive to read. And I can’t seem to stop! 400 hours and I’m so proud of it ❤️

- edit -
The white area on my screen is not a front light problem, it’s just a reflection of the window behind me ;)

First post! 43/52 - Polybius

Hi everyone, I’m new here and I’m glad I found you :) I started my own 52 books to read goal this year and I had no idea if I was going to make it. It’s looking really good so far and most of all, I’m enjoying my books so much!

I just started Polybius by Collin Armstrong as my 43rd book. Has anyone read it? I’m about 25% in and I’m loving it so far. The book is based on an urban legend about a mysterious arcade game that caused hallucinations and amnesia among the players. This book takes this urban legend to a whole new level and I can’t wait to read more! I mostly read horror books and so far this books looks very promising. I’m loving the pace and the 80’s vibe and although I’m not sold on the characters yet, I keep wanting to read more.

Replacing promotions at the bottom of Home Screen with own text?

Has anyone on firmware 5.x (Clara Colour) managed to modify or replace the two promotional cards at the bottom of the Home screen? I’m not looking to hide them—I want to replace them with my own text.

I know KoboPatch by Nico Verbruggen, but I don’t like how much open space this creates.

I’m a total noob by the way so I’m really hoping for a step by step guide. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Lineup of my next reads

The first three books will mainly make *me* feel like being the weird girl though, but I’m excited about them anyway!

Another feature I absolutely love: collections!

I’ve had my KCC for over 6 months and I keep raving about it. I mainly read horror books and I finally took the time to categorize them using the collections feature. (Which would probably be easier with calibre but I don’t always have my laptop at hand) I feel silly that I didn’t use this earlier! My kobo feels more and more like my own personal pocket library ❤️

Bonus photo for everyone who is always checking other peoples reads from their homescreen ;)

New to this sub! How am I doing? :)

Hi everyone! I’m new to this sub so I thought it would be nice to say hi. I’ve been a huge horror fan from a very young age (begging the older kids to borrow horror books from the library and secretly watching horror movies from the video store, hidden in the VHS covers of Disney videos by my friend’s older sister who worked there)

A few months ago I picked up reading again after a break, and I’m looking forward to find some new reads. Supernatural, occult, gore, weird… heck throw in some zombies if you want. What would you recommend? :)

Book cover only showing when sleep mode is triggered from “homepage”

Solved! Weirdly, when I toggle the option for a sleepcover (even though I’m not using one) my kepub covers do show up when I enter sleep mode directly from reading my book. 🤷‍♀️

Hi all, I have a question about how my book covers show up in sleep mode. My sideloaded books (kepub, calibre) only show the actual book cover when I trigger sleep mode from the homepage or my books. When I put my device in sleep mode while I’m in my book, the cover shows up as in the first photo. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Lazy couch day, reading in style :)

I got this Clara Colour for my birthday in December and I cant get over how much I love this device. I don’t think I’ve ever read this much in my life. It’s so easy to carry around! I have a hardcase and a pouch to protect it, but I prefer not to have it in a case when I’m reading on the couch or at night. Today was a lazy day and I smiled when I realized my slippers match my current read perfectly :)

If you read bunny by Mona Awad and we know there are film rights..

I’m so curious who you would cast as Ursula.. in my brain it’s Tilda Swinton... I can not read the book without seeing her. Please tell me I’m not crazy!

Wildly inaccurate “hours to go”

First of all: I absolutely LOVE my KCC, but one thing annoys the heck out of me: I usually spend around 5~6 hours on average to finish a book. The “…hours to go” stats are always wildly off. 292 hours to go for Fantasticland, 91 hours for the remaining 64% of my current read.

I always put my kobo in sleep mode when I stop reading, and I only open my books when I read. Why are these stats so far off and is there anything I can do to fix this?

Edit: turns out the books I bought from kobo are epub, not kepub. This seems to be messing with the stats. I side loaded a book that I ran through kepubify and the stats are normal for that book
